AMA (almost 4 months as mod)

Apparently I became mod on 10/08/2016. If that's right, then tomorrow I will have been mod for 4 months.
I'm a mod, mentor, mapdev, and ref. Which means that I ban people, talk to junior mods, manage maps, and watch teams play tournaments. This is the first AMA I have ever done.
Just a word of warning - if you ask me for my opinion of you, I will not make any attempts to sugarcoat anything.
Have fun asking me "anything".
Just as a reminder, please do not clutter this thread with your personal opinions, or posts that have no questions within them. If you have a concern relating to one of my responses, please message me.
I reserve the right to delete posts which do not contain a question for me.
This AMA will run until February 18, 2017 - 10:59 EST. After that time, the thread will be locked.
You love to complain endlessly about problems, but refuse to think about even lifting a finger to help solve them. You greatly overestimate the importance of activity when talking about the staff team; maybe you should have gotten a clue when you were demoted despite being one of the most active junior mods? You have no clue of what makes for good gameplay in a map; you love the old, terrible maps and hate anything that is of decent quality. On the forums, whenever you try to seriously argue something, you repeat the same thing over and over again without any new input. The appropriate response to most of your complaints on the forums is this:
Will you try to add that map from ocn that you made that is the road with the multiblock Mon right by spawn, with a wool really high in the back? I can't remember the name but I liked that map xd, opinions too if you know anything about me

Thoughts on me pressuring you to come over to Avicus and be my bud since I was lonely?
Favourite staff member, and why?
Favourite community member (non-staff), and why?
Opinion of me?
Thoughts on me pressuring you to come over to Avicus and be my bud since I was lonely? It's been nice so far. I hadn't been staff anywhere in a while, so applying here was pleasant. Favourite staff member, and why? It'd have to be a tie between you and Fouled. You're both reasonable people who are easy to talk to. (Not to discredit PieZ, though. He's also pretty good.) My second favorite would have to be a tie between MasterClock (simply because of his hilariously dumb questions), and shadowolf (memes). Favourite community member (non-staff), and why? Honestly, I don't know. Some names on the top of my head would be diabolic and edjm but there's no clear favorites. If inactive people counted, I'd also add mitch to the list. Opinion of me? You're reasonable and easygoing, which is good. You also have helped me a lot with "staff things" over the past seven months so I have to thank you for that.
I would make puns about your name but that would distract me from your actual ama
Opinion?
How do you farm ranks ? I remember you applying for ref here after OCN shutdown was announced, then few weeks later getting mod and then builder
Whats one thing you would change in most/all maps on avicus?
What do you dislike the most about the server ?
And lastly, I appreciate your work as a mapdev. Thank you.
Opinion? You're nice. You sometimes build maps, I guess, but not many. I appreciate that you decided to give avicus a chance, instead of just leaving due to its current state.
I used to purposely avoid you because I didn't want to look at your minecraft skin (not your fault or anything), but you've since changed your skin so there's no problems there.
In general though, I have no problems with you. You're good. How do you farm ranks ? I remember you applying for ref here after OCN shutdown was announced, then few weeks later getting mod and then builder. It's nothing you couldn't figure out yourself. To get ref, apply for it. To get jr mod, apply for it. To get builder (back in 2016), you would have needed to build a few good-quality maps. No real trick to it. Whats one thing you would change in most/all maps on avicus? I guess the main change would be adding axes, and also armor if a map has none. In terms of the rotations, I'd love to clean the old, terrible-playing maps out of them. What do you dislike the most about the server ? A certain developer can be a bit immature at times, which is simply annoying. Also, the community often makes a big fuss from nothing. And lastly, I appreciate your work as a mapdev. Thank you. Thank you! I hope to do much more as time goes on.
Opinions? What was you reaction when you got mod? What are some of your goals in life?
Opinions? You're fine for the most part. You can be slightly annoying at times, like the time you kept complaining about having no friends (we heard you the first ten times), and the time you spent an hour talking to me about an appeal only to completely throw out everything I said (next time, don't even bother).
Other than minor annoyances, I really have no problems with you. You were one of the better moderators (props for being the only AU one for a while), and I'm sure you were fine as a mentor. Keep up the (mostly) good work. Update 2/10/2017: I will say that it's not really fair to highlight these flaws. It probably wasn't your intention to waste my time, and I sincerely doubt you had any bad intent. What was you reaction when you got mod? "Yay, I didn't screw my interview up." What are some of your goals in life? I have many, but I guess I'll list two. One would be to have a youtube channel of half-decent popularity (not necessarily minecraft-related). Another would be to do a cross-country roadtrip across America with a few friends.
Nope, I got Mod on July 2nd, 2016 and it's only been 7 months.
Anyways:
Opinions?
Do I trigger you?
Favorite memory?
Opinions? You used to be one of the most active moderators, last time I checked. I don't know how your activity is right now, but I'm sure it's fine.
I don't know why you kept wanting to retire. Seriously, people don't hate you. You didn't embarrass yourself or anything. Don't over-dramatize simple things.
You're one of the nicest moderators Avicus has. You could use a slight touch up in the maturity department, but are otherwise fine. Do I trigger you? No. Favorite memory? I have no idea. It would take a while to decide.
Will you try to add that map from ocn that you made that is the road with the multiblock Mon right by spawn, with a wool really high in the back? I can't remember the name but I liked that map xd, opinions too if you know anything about me
Will you try to add that map from ocn that you made that is the road with the multiblock Mon right by spawn, with a wool really high in the back? I can't remember the name but I liked that map xd. I would gladly add Chimeric, but the problem is that it's a small map (team sizes at 11 vs 11). Avicus doesn't really have a good place for such small maps at the moment. Opinions too if you know anything about me. I've seen you ingame and on the forums a couple of times, but I don't really know anything else about you.
Opinions? You were a bit too anti-OCN for my taste at first. Other than that, you're mostly fine. I guess you're decently nice. It's a bit dumb how you managed to get yourself demoted. What timezone are you in? EST How much of a meme are you on a scale from 1-10? I doubt I'm the right person to answer this. I'd say a 3 or 4. And me? A 5 or a 6. Is Junr ez? Sometimes, I guess. Strucken is easier, though. Destroy his bridge.
Opinions? I don't really know too much about you, unfortunately. I have seen you quite a bit ingame and on the forums but we haven't really talked about anything other than purely moderating-related topics. I did think your video was funny, though.
Favourite map? Arida Favourite Mod? Tie between MasterClock (because of his hilariously dumb questions) and shadowolf (memes). Favourite senior? Crazy Favourite Admin? Fouled And opinions? Apparently we're on the same team, but I barely know anything about you. You're at least a bit nice, from what I've seen. You've made a few maps that need some touch-ups but otherwise aren't too bad.
Opinions? I've seen you ingame on OCN and Avicus a lot, and we've fought a few times. You also make occasional forum posts, I guess. I don't really have any opinions of you (and yes I know you were Okiba). I guess you're better than average at pvp.
Opinions on me? Thoughts on the currently state of the staff team?
Opinions on me? I was disappointed when you were promoted to junior moderator, and then to moderator. You don't know the rules; you know some twisted version of them that you have made up in your mind. You are often stricter than you should be with your punishments, and tend to unnecessarily delete forum posts. The only reason I originally wanted you as mod was so that Cammy would be saved from the torture of being the only AU mod, but now that we have a decent amount of moderators in that timezone, there's no reason for you to be here. You do not add anything significant to the staff team. Update 2/10/2017: I'm not going to deny that sometimes, I genuinely believe the above. However, it isn't entirely fair to you. Everybody has their flaws. In my opinion, you have an above-average amount of flaws, and a below-average perception of how to improve. That's not to say you're a terrible moderator; in general you are fine. In my honest opinion, though, you make illogical decisions fairly regularly, and it's honestly sad to see it happen over and over again. Thoughts on the currently state of the staff team? It's steadily improving. The main problem at the moment would have to be a lack of organization, in my opinion. (Or even if it is organized, that organization is not clearly visible.) Also, proper activity reviews for moderators would be nice.
Opinions? I honestly should know you better at this point. You seem to be pretty nice, though, from what I have seen. Has anyone ever accused me of hacks? A few people have, it appears. Want Camemes? You can have him. Rate my bridging skills... I don't remember seeing you create a bridge. On a scale of 1-10 how is life? When I have motivation, it's about at an 8. When I have no motivation, it feels like a 5, but is probably more at a 6. Of course, this is extremely subjective. I'm certainly not trying to compare myself to somebody who is homeless or poor. The numbers are meaningless, anyway.
Actually I got another question, since you're a part of the map making side of things. What's your opinion/thoughts on MapStack, and would you ever consider contributing towards it?
Actually I got another question, since you're a part of the map making side of things. What's your opinion/thoughts on MapStack, and would you ever consider contributing towards it?
It's a great project, and I hope you guys succeed with it.
I'm a bit wary about adding my maps to it, simply because A) it means I don't really have control anymore of where the maps go, and B) I don't really see people using my maps in a context where they are really needed. I doubt any PGM revival servers will get enough players to play 32 vs 32 maps at their full count, so there's no point in me giving any large maps up. Mini maps are simpler to give, I guess, but all my minis are more complex than average, and I don't know if people would enjoy them.
In terms of the avicus map stack, I guess I don't really know where people would use those maps. Atlas isn't public, and no other plugin accepts avicus xml. It's still a good effort on your part, though.
Would you rather have Snow or me on the staff team (as Moderator)?
How did you get to Avicus?
What motivates you to be a Moderator?
^^^ to be a Map Developer?
On a scale of 1-10, how "sad" are you about OCN shutting down (1 = I don't care at all, 10 = I want to kill myself)?
How did you get to your ingame name? Back in 2012, I wanted something in all caps that would get noticed. This account was originally my alt, before I started using it pretty much everywhere as my "main" account. Would you rather have Snow or me on the staff team (as Moderator)? You two are not mutually exclusive. The best option is to have neither. How did you get to Avicus? I saw it mentioned on the OCN forums in 2014, and decided to check it out. I believe the first map I played was Rendezvous. What motivates you to be a Moderator? I guess it's nice to be part of a staff team. I don't really mind playing avicus and punishing some people, once in a while. ^^^ to be a Map Developer? I've been interested in the OCN mapmaking scene since 2014, and when their shutdown was originally announced in the summer of 2016, I shifted my gears towards here. I want to improve the quality of Avicus maps (which will include some changes you will not like), and also expand things. I'm working on DTE right now, and in the far future I might even make a Flow map. On a scale from 1-10, how "sad" are you about OCN shutting down (1 = I don't care at all, 10 = I want to kill myself)? I'm very disappointed, but your scale is wrong because I doubt anybody would kill themselves over the shutdown. If 1 is "I don't care", and 10 is "I'm super sad", it would have to be about a 7. I don't know why, but for some reason I was much more frustrated and sad back when the original shutdown was announced, than I was after the shutdown of PGM was announced by Lifeboat.
Hi, Opinions on me if you have any and what do you expect for avicus this year. I like your honesty so keep it in my answer please!
Hi, Opinions on me if you have any? I'm sorry, but I don't really know you well enough to say anything of substance. Pretty much all I know is that your ping can be very inconsistent. And what do you expect for avicus this year. Better maps, better rotations, and maybe some beta tests of "new" gamemodes. I hope that when the summer comes around and many people have a break from school, more will play avicus.
Your maps are generally good, but you don't always take feedback in the optimal way. You should build some maps for avicus.
In terms of personality, you are generally fine, but sometimes difficult to deal with. You should tone down your shitposts on this forum; they are unnecessary and don't contribute anything.
opinions? we do you break my bridge? least favourite mod?
Opinions? I guess that, when compared to others, you complain more than the average person. You were an alright mod; I wouldn't say you were above or below the average. You were one of the most enthusiastic/active mentors, though, and I do think you helped make the mentor team better. In terms of personality, you can be a bit immature sometimes, but otherwise are fine. Update 2/13/2017: You are somewhat of a hypocrite; demanding moderator activity information to be public, when you are horribly inactive within your own department. Maybe you can work on your own faults before endlessly complaining about those of others? Why do you break my bridge? It was fun, and ended up actually being a decent strategy in the end. Least favorite mod? In terms of moderators who could use some improvement, I think SnowSX3 needs the most out of the entire moderator team. However, this doesn't mean I personally hate him, or anything like that. I simply think that some decisions he makes are not really the best.
What are your favorite maps made by me? What maps NOT made by me do you like the most? Do you prefer DTC or DTM? What should be changed on Avicus the most? Opinions? (Honest, can be rude <3) Fish?
What are your favorite maps made by me? What maps NOT made by me do you like the most? Do you prefer DTC or DTM? What should be changed on Avicus the most? Opinions? (Honest, can be rude <3) Fish?
What are your favorite maps made by me? The only map you have made that I really like is Arida. I used to like YinYang for some reason, but looking at it now, I have no idea why I liked it. What maps NOT made by me do you like the most? On Avicus, I like Fort Aqua and The Toys. Do you prefer DTC or DTM? DTC What should be changed on Avicus the most? The old maps that play terribly need to leave. Opinions? (Honest, can be rude <3) You make half decent attempts to make good maps, but it's just a hit or miss. A lot of your maps look quite bland, and even when you improve them nothing changes. That being said, I do appreciate your efforts. Even though most of your maps aren't top-notch, they are still good enough to put into rotations as filler, which is quite nice. As a person, you are fine. You used to be a bit immature, but I don't know much about your current personality because you are very inactive as a staff member. Update 2/18/2017: You are still immature. You abused your powers; at what point did you decide giving a moderator poison potions, and throwing them onto players in a match while in observer mode, was okay? In addition, you're a hypocrite. You keep whining about no moderators being on, while it was you who decided to turn down the position of junior moderator. Well guess what? If you hadn't dropped the mod offer, you could have been a moderator who is online at your time. Genius, huh? Fish? Chicken or fish.
Why do I get the feeling that I'm in for the biggest grilling so far? =P
Opinions on me? The day you retired from the moderator team, the staff team became a better place. We no longer had to see the endless arguments that you started from thin air. We no longer had to deal with your superiority complex. I am glad that you left, and am slightly disappointed that you had not retired sooner. You claim that you are intelligent, yet refuse to provide even a sliver of evidence. Ever since you retired from the staff team, you have been quite vocal in criticizing it. It's as if you have amnesia; did you forget that you helped make the staff team what it is? Even if you can no longer start arguments in staff slack, you still have a tendency to get into them over the stupidest things on the forums and community slack. What are you trying to do? Further prove your immaturity? (Mr. James the Period Joke Maker, huh?) It's not even as if you have good arguments for anything anymore. You say you do not care about Avicus anymore, yet stalk the forums and community slack. Please stay true to your word and just leave, or stop pretending that you don't care. Opinions on me as a moderator? You were a moderator. You performed the physical act of logging onto Avicus and doing the duties of a moderator. Your activity was mediocre, and general moderating skills were fine. In Slack, you had a poor attitude that reeked of a superiority complex (which extended to the forums as well). The only thing the staff team lost when you retired was a person willing to come on and punish people; nothing else. Why do I get the feeling that I'm in for the biggest grilling so far? My guess would be that someone from Teamspeak (Acceqted) said a word or two to you. I don't really care, though. I think you got off lightly, because I wrote this response late at night and as a result may have forgotten a point or two.
Opinions? At the very least, you're a good coder. You sometimes can overreact, and act irrationally. Other than that, I guess you're fine. You're mostly chill, but have weird ideas once in a while. Keep up the good developer work. Walluar or Garden? I will have to go with Garden. Executors? I have plans to make a forum thread detailing how Walluar uses executors, which should hopefully help people understand them better. In terms of using them in real maps, I have a few ideas, but nothing too definite.
Just as a reminder, please do not clutter this thread with your personal opinions, or posts that have no questions within them. If you have a concern relating to one of my responses, please message me.
In addition, I have decided that the AMA will run until February 18, 2017 - 10:59 EST. After that time, the thread will be locked.
