If you got a computer virus... by KenjiKido March 13, 2015 at 7:03 PM UTC

There are 3 main types of viruses. Spyware, malware, and adware. I will show you a few legit and great anti-virus systems.

Adw-cleaner
Malwarebytes (one of the best)
Avast (one of the best)
Kapersky
Avira

Extra tips: Avoid AVG and McAfee. Get chrome. .exe files are despicable (not all of them). This is because .exe files are program installing programs. Therefore they could be installing lots of viruses.

Conclusion: I'm not the best expert, so correct me if I'm wrong. Hope this helps! :)

Avast is the best in my opinion + free ;)

Agreed !

Could I suggest a few Mac anti virus/virus scanners?

Is there such a thing?

Yeah, but you really have to tread carefully.

One great scanner is MacScan. I'll go into that in full depth when I hop onto my computer though :)

Kaspersky is a great program from my experience. For Mac, my advice is to stay away from MacKeeper.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and a few others, but MSE is amazing and does a great job, and you get it for the decent price of free.

Atdit March 13, 2015 at 11:03 PM UTC

I use the Windows Defender.
And I never got a virus...

ZoneAlarm is my personal favourite. I don't use it now, since I factory reset my computer and CBF downloading it again.

I highly recommend it.

YAC is a great option as well, it has everything you need and more, all done quickly and with effieciency

Sevoo March 14, 2015 at 2:03 AM UTC

Im surprised no one mentioned Norton

UmbreonMessiah March 14, 2015 at 2:03 AM UTC

I don't see why use anything other than Avast. Its free, its easy, and it works great.

I just Microsoft Security essentials. I used to use Avast but I just got annoying.

Used to be the best ever, but now it's just bloatware that comes with computer and just keeps nagging at you to buy their yearly subscription.

=/ well I use it and it works fine for me

(Maybe the real best antivirus is my dad, hes too overprotective...)

I don't believe you should exclude AVG and McAfee out of the question solely because they are .exe files, the ones you have recommended are all executable files anyways, since every application you run starts off with an executable program.

Personally, I use AVG combined with Malwarebytes. Amazing pieces of software, really gets the job done, and has saved myself a few times :)

Now regarding AV software for Mac, I'd just use AVG for Mac.

Rainstruck March 14, 2015 at 4:03 AM UTC

I have Norton. Does a good job just gotta make sure you turn off notifications.

Nebbsy March 14, 2015 at 8:03 PM UTC

On my old computer from the 1800s had Norton. Now I use McAfee

Derumisis March 14, 2015 at 10:03 PM UTC

MacKeeper is rougeware (fake software) so yeah; avoid it.

Derumisis March 14, 2015 at 10:03 PM UTC

Malwarebytes Premium is what I use and it never fails, AVG had ruined my computer...

Norton has false alarms and Kaspersky isn't my type.

Malwarebytes doesn't use a lot of Memory

CozzehPvP_ March 14, 2015 at 10:03 PM UTC

Nothing.... Cri cri

Derumisis March 14, 2015 at 10:03 PM UTC

I am developing my own Anti-virus, made for gaming as it is low memory use, and active at all times against hijacking and a constant check for bad items.

_Phyre March 14, 2015 at 11:03 PM UTC

BitDefender... Where's that?
