Support for MC 1.7.2 - 1.8.3 by keenanjt April 14, 2015 at 10:04 PM UTC

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but the servers have been restarting to support Minecraft versions 1.7.2 through 1.8.3.  We supplied our reasons towards upgrading but many other servers have not followed suit in the switch which has been detrimental to our players and player count. Those who choose to use a 1.7 version will likely experience slow network connection to the server, but the features they desire. 1.8 users will largely have the same experience. We encourage the use of 1.8 because, although we have support for 1.7 currently, it is only a matter of time before we go full 1.8 once again.  The much undesired PVP changes will be back, and that is not within our control.  Please voice your concerns kindly to Mojang, not us.

Note that it may take up to an hour or so for some users due to the delay in DNS updating. For many it will work right away, though some game servers have yet to restart.

Thank you Ivy :)

vYuri April 14, 2015 at 10:04 PM UTC

OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PokerFace April 14, 2015 at 10:04 PM UTC

Yes!!!!

scolton April 14, 2015 at 10:04 PM UTC

No.  1.7 forever.  Hooray for Minecraft conservatism.

Rainstruck April 14, 2015 at 10:04 PM UTC

I'm just gonna stay on 1.8 to get used to it.

So does this mean that maps with 1.8 blocks won't work?

Deezi April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Yes I will also get used to 1.8, plus you said 1.7 will have slower connection..

SnowSX3 April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Keep in mind, moving to 1.8 is inevitable.
We can't stay on 1.7 forever, whether you like it or not.

The next time we fully upgrade to 1.8, it will be for good.

vYuri April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

You see that? When the server is placed in the 1.7.x many people join at the same time!

Out2Kill April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Hopefully 1.8 bugs are fixed by then.

Yay, back to block-hitting.

Oh wait... Apple Magic Mouse...

Yaky April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Seems that 1.8 also has a slow connection so The only difference I see between the versions is all the bugs 1.8 brought. I don't see how 1.8 helped the server in the slightest, all I have seen is staff blame the bugs on 1.8 and leave it at that... Why update to 1.8 if there are game breaking bugs that cause unfair deaths, unfair wins, etc.

snsxc April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Awesome!! #Hype

Thanks! GJ:D

1.8 did bring many blocks into Minecraft increasing map makers' imaginations.

So a couple blocks vs game breaking bugs that ruin the fun for every player? k m8

Just trying to say that 1.8 isn't all bad. It's sad that people were leaving because of 1.8. Avicus is more than just a bunch of minigames you know. It's got a great community that is hard to leave behind. The people who left were a lot like Randys to me.

Tarheelkiwi April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

If you made this announcement once the Omega Update came out, I would have kissed you.  But playing 1.8 for a couple of weeks, made me realize that it isn't that bad.  Yes I am still getting used to it, but I have grown as a PvPer.  When I used 1.7, I frequently used the blockhitting almost to the point where I over used it.  With 1.8, it forced me to start using more PvP strategies and.  For me, I am going to stick with 1.8.  But, I am really thankful that the staff have taken our pleas into consideration.  Thank you!

Porkyyy April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Hope to see some players coming back.

Sevoo April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Well, Im back :D

kycrafft April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

You know I actually kind of got used to 1.8 (still sucks though) but I'm glad you made the change. I know you probably didn't want to do it so I respect you for that.

MLGtino April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

wow

loss of words

scolton April 14, 2015 at 11:04 PM UTC

Wait can someone please explain the hatred toward MC1.8 to me?  I really still don't understand...

Nothing is wrong with 1.8 IMO.

I haven't found any problems.

Hacktivism April 15, 2015 at 12:04 AM UTC

I haven't found any problems.
Blockhitting felt different because the animation was gone, players didn't turn red when you hit them, and those with not-so-good computers experienced unwanted FPS lag. Juts a few examples on the PvP side.

Oh on the PvP side.  That explains why I wasn't aware ;P

Not to mention everyone is invisible for the first minute of the game, half the people are invis for the entire game until they relog, block lag and so on

Oh for some reason I never made the connection between 1.8 and the invisible issue.  I thought that was idiopathic.

Ik what you mean, even though I never played 1.8, my Grandmothers PC has a shitty mouse that cant blockhit.

So I found myself strafing A LOT more.

Wait, so you rely on blockhitting, and don't even strafe when you can blockhit?

Dyspa April 15, 2015 at 1:04 AM UTC

Blockhitters are coming back!

JustBudah April 15, 2015 at 4:04 AM UTC

Does this mean that the Tourney is also gonna be 1.7.2 -1.8?

keenanjt April 15, 2015 at 4:04 AM UTC

All dependent on Mojang and version adoption rates on other servers and here.

RightSide April 15, 2015 at 6:04 AM UTC

Now the 1.8 haters will be back !

Notalgicular April 15, 2015 at 6:04 AM UTC

for every time you hit someone 2/3 times, it registers twice

Stimulating April 15, 2015 at 6:04 AM UTC

Wait can someone please explain the hatred toward MC1.8 to me?  I really still don't understand...
In 1.8 hits register weird for a lot of people. Also, 1.8 causes huge fps drops for a lot of people. For example, my fps goes from 360 down to 60, occasionally dropping down to 20 on Kohi, which screws up aim and can make the game unplayable for some.

How 1.8 works PvP-wise: In 1.8 if you get first hit, you gain 0.25 of a block's reach and your opponent's reach gets reduced to around 1.25-2 blocks. So you're screwed if you don't get first hit 1.8, which is why a lot of people hate it.

@OP yesss, ty. :)

Fuseh April 15, 2015 at 9:04 AM UTC

Ivy your are not joking right ? Thanks dude.

Myv April 15, 2015 at 10:04 AM UTC

Omg 1.7 is back yes ily Kylo :D

I think the only time we will have to revert back to 1.8 is when the 1.9 conbat update comes out, although I think that it would be ok if we went to 1.9 only.

BmB April 15, 2015 at 2:04 PM UTC

Sevoo April 15, 2015 at 9:04 PM UTC

No, not anymore if you know what I mean ;)

But I didnt even used to, but what im saying is I dont blockhit on close range , I actually strafe there. The only times I blockhit is Im in a desperate situation or Im in a 1x1 whole... xD or tunnel, you know

keenanjt April 16, 2015 at 9:04 PM UTC

We'll be working on fixes for some of the bugs heavily today and over the weekend. Trying out a new build of a server API.
