The was an issue with renaming swords/items to inappropriate names. So The anvils got disabled to prevent renaming.
Edit: nvm, they are available again...

Just to tell you what I did: I was playing on sector six and I wanted a prot 2 chestplate, so I threw both of the chestplates into the anvil and the anvil sucked up my levels and gave me the two chestplates back

Just to tell you what I did: I was playing on sector six and I wanted a prot 2 chestplate, so I threw both of the chestplates into the anvil and the anvil sucked up my levels and gave me the two chestplates back
Minecraft bug, it's happened to me on other servers.

Edit: if you gain more xp levels after, it will set your xp back to the correct amount
