Official Peripheral Recommendation Thread. by Sevoo March 11, 2016 at 4:03 PM UTC

Hi. It's about time someone made one of these, and I decided to do it! Think of this as the technical support thread, only for keyboards, mice, headsets/headphones, speakers and monitors/screens.

Here's a question list for every category for you to answer for me to give a good and unbiased recommendation that suits your needs.

Keyboard:

-Budget?

-Do you want a mechanical keyboard? If so, what switch type do you want? Here's a video explaining all the types of switches and what a mechanical switch is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps5DEeSBl5s

-Do you want macro keys?
-Do you want back lighting? If so, what color? You can get RGB lighting, which is basically 16.8 million colors to choose from for your back lighting.
-Do you want dedicated media keys? You can also have them on the F keys using the FN key if you'd like.
-Any more special features/ addons you would like? (ex. thumbster keys, windows lock key, USB hub, etc.)
-What games are you going to be playing?

Mouse:
-Budget?
-Do you want side buttons? If so, how many?
-What games are you going to be playing?
-Do you want lighting? If so, what color? You can get RGB lighting, which is basically 16.8 million colors to choose from for your back lighting.
-What is your mouse hand?
-Do you use claw, palm or fingertip grip? Note that some people use hybrid grips, like me. Here's a guide to the different grip types: http://www.epicgear.com/en/technologies/types-of-mouse-grip
-Do you like a light mouse or a heavy mouse?
-Do you constantly change between DPIs (Dots per Inch)/ Sensitivity?
-Do you like high or low DPI?
-What mice have you used it the past?
-Do you want a wired or wireless mouse?
-Any more special features/addons? (ex. hyper-fast scroll wheel, tilt scroll wheel, interchangeable mouse parts, etc.)

Headset/Headphones
-Budget?
-Do you need a microphone? If so, would you want for it to show when your not using it or hidden? Are you going to do recording with this microphone or just some Skyping for, let's say a comeptitive League match?
-Do you want lighting? If so, what color? You can get RGB lighting, which is basically 16.8 million colors to choose from for your back lighting. Take note that most headsets that have lighting are worse when compared to headsets with no lighting. Headsets can still look cool without lighting!
- Do you want a wired or wireless headset/headphones?
-Do you sweat or itch a lot around your ears?
-Do you want an open design (you can hear your outside your game and the sound stage is a lot wider) or a closed back design (better for submersing yourself in games, but smaller sound stage)?
-Do you want to use your headphones publicly or strictly in your home?
-Do you want earbuds, an on ear or around ear design?
Do you want any special features/addons? (ex. 7.1 surround sound, in cable controls, audio amp, etc.)
-Do you prefer USB or audio jack?
-Will you be monitoring sound?
-What kind of music do you listen to?
Speakers:
-Budget?
-Will you be monitoring sound?
-Do you want a subwoofer?
-Do you want big or small speakers?
-What color do you want them to be?
-Will you be travelling with them a lot?
Monitors/Screens:
-Budget?
-How big do you want it to be in inches? (15 inches is small, 19 inches is better, 21.5 inches is medium, 24-28 inches is standard, 28+ inches is big)
-What games do you play?
-How much FPS do you get it the games you play?
-Do you want a normal, ultrawide or ultrawide AND curved monitor? Take note that ultrawides and curved monitors are expensive.
-Do you want a specific color?
-Do you have any lighting around where your monitor will be? If so, is it bright or just for mood lighting?
-Do you want an HDMI, DVI or VGA input? Here's a video explaining every type: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f38sotYHqtA
-Do you want a 60 hz, 100hz, 144hz, etc. monitor? This is completely synced with your FPS, so the refresh rate (hz) HAS to be in sync with your FPS for you not to experience screen-tearing. Here's a video explaining what a refresh rate is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PTp8isuJJs
I hope all of you find that one peripheral that is just...for you specifically!

ROG Gladius, Mionix Castor , Razer DeathAdder/DeathAdder Chroma , Logitech G502 Proteus Core/Spectrum.

I personally have the DeathAdder but prefer the Castor. All of the mice here are the best of the best.

I understand that this thread isn't quite intended for these recommendations, but this mouse is brilliant. It pertains to incredibly high durability, is weighted, and is equipped with two macros. Considering its cost of $13, I wished to share this with anyone interested. I've been using this for over a year and have been unable to determine any flaws.

Red dragon is known for having good quality products at a low cost.

Finalmouse ergonomic, steelseries rival and zowie ec series are imo the best performance mice for fps games and MC.

I would say yes on the FinalMouse and Zowie but the Rival only goes for the newer versions of it.

If I were to recommend a mouse to you, I'd say the Corsair Katar, but it doesn't have neon green lighting, just red.

On the other hand, if you'd like to have a mouse that is good all around and has neon green lighting (RGB), I'd say the SteelSeries Rival 100, but it does have side buttons (2 to be specific).

Also, keyboard recommendation what do u think is the best?

Wahiz April 1, 2016 at 12:04 PM UTC

I'm looking for a new mouse and keyboard. I've been using a Blackwidow keyboard and I'm bored of it and it doesn't really suit me anymore. I'm also looking for a mouse (can be any price) grip doesn't matter, it must be weighted and have side buttons. (On my phone so no format)

Sorry for not replying sooner, didn't see this.

The Razer is well over your budget, but I still wouldn't get it. I would get either the CM Storm Quickfire TK or TKL. It's mechanical, has all the switch types, has the small size you want. But the back lighting could be a problem and there are no macro keys. You're going to have to use the FN key for media keys, but that's what you get for a small sized keyboard. You can also get the Corsair K65 or K65 RGB, and they are a lot better quality.

One of the HyperX Cloud lineup's headset. There's the...

1- HyperX Cloud Core (headset and microphone, most barebpnes version and around $60-70 USD).

2- HyperX Cloud (Basically a Cloud Core but with special features, ex. in line controls, mesh bag, airplane adapter, extra earcups, Around $80-90 USD).

3- HyperX Cloud 2 (Basically a Cloud with 7.1 virtual surround sound, and some extra features like it being lighter or more color options, 100$)

These headsets are basically what a smart tech saavy guy would think of when someone tells them "value headset". These, for the price, have great sound, are one of the most comfortable headphones, are durable as hell with an aluminum frame and they look awesome. I swear they have better feeling plastic than my Razer Deathadder, which is a mouse I hold, where the Clouds aren't. I bought the Cloud 2s and they are simply amazing. I've worn 500$ audiophile headphones in shops but nothing comes close to the comfort of these. Even the packaging is good. Here's a video with the Cloud 2s in case you want to see what they look like or are:

Trust me, if there's a reason I'm recommending these things and wrote so long about them is because they are the shit.

Mouse:
-Budget? | unlimited (just dont overkill)

-What games are you going to be playing? | Minecraft, FPS games, MOBA and RPG games

-What is your mouse hand? | Right

Logitech G502, new DeathAdder Elite or the old Chroma, The new Logitech Pro move or whatever they're called are good from what I hear. A Mionix Castor is a good choice (I have one) and pretty much anything from SteelSeries (not the rival 700) would do pretty well. What I recommend is going to a channel called Rockjumpninja on YouTube and watching the videos on the mice you find interesting. Try to try one out in a local shop. Best Buy and Staples usually have some gaming peripherals to try out if you live near one. Good luck!

-Budget? 60 - 70$

-Do you want a mechanical keyboard? If so, what switch type do you want? Here's a video explaining all the types of switches and what a mechanical switch is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps5DEeSBl5s
No

-Do you want macro keys? Not necessary
-Do you want back lighting? If so, what color? You can get RGB lighting, which is basically 16.8 million colors to choose from for your back lighting. Green would be nice but any colour works.
-Do you want dedicated media keys? You can also have them on the F keys using the FN key if you'd like. No.
-Any more special features/ addons you would like? (ex. thumbster keys, windows lock key, USB hub, etc.) Nope
-What games are you going to be playing? Only MC.

Corsair is probably one of the best keyboard companies out there at the moment, so it's a trusted brand. They make high quality boards and specifically this one has a lot of features for the price. Media keys, G-keys and even a wrist rest, not to mention at least some kind of RGB backlighting, it's hard to beat.

Can you tell me why you wouldn't want a mechanical board? If it's because of money and not because of the sound it makes or anything related to personal preference, I recommend you save up and get a mechanical board because they are much more worth it. Think about this and please reply with an answer, and I'll try to convince you to get a mechanical board. If ever you have trouble finding a mechanical one, redo the same questions and I'll be happy to help ;)
