i want to make sure I won't lose it when I change my name

If you have an alternate account I'd recommend you move the cape to an alt then change your main account name, then move it back. And yes, you do lose it if you change your name. Email Optifine or try moving the cape to your new IGN (I forgot which option is best/works)

You don't lose it if you change your name. You can easily switch the cape by logging into the donator email on optifine's website.

"Capes.
Also, regarding capes, you need to transfer them to another account before you change your name, or else you will lose your cape.
But, you can get it back.
You have to click here and type in your email.
Note: You need to use the same email you used to buy the cape.
You will then receive an email from the Optifine guys with your new passcode.
Then log back in and type in your new passcode. Your cape should appear.
