Reducing ban evasion by Or8 November 1, 2016 at 1:11 AM UTC

So yeah me and junr came up with a way to reduce the amount of ban evasion by I'm guessing quite a lot.

http://m.imgur.com/a/kRZYS

Basically what it is is

You would have a blacklist of ip's and a whitelist of accounts

When a person is logging on it would first check the ip blacklist, if the Ip is there than it would check the account whitelist, if the account your logging in with is on the whitelist it would let you log in, if it isn't on whitelist and your ip is on blacklist than it wouldn't let you log on....

A staff members brother was hacking on the server so this would be a good way of stopping his brother from ban evading if he ever gets an alt, but it would allow the staff member to log in cus his name would be on the whitelist (keep in mind you don't have to add everyone that's not banned to account whitelist because it will only check for you of your IP is banned, or is on the blacklist)

This obviously won't stop all evasion but it will reduce by a lot considering how small of an amount of people that could probably change their ip.

vpn. most of the time when people ban evade they use one.

Yeah but most hackers are young and have no idea about them, again it's not completely stopping them, it's to reduce it

Im all for reducing ban evaders, especially when hackers  keep coming on alt accounts....

You'd be surprised how many young-lings these days know and use VPN's.

This was brought up many times before. The only problem is that we don't know who is who. Like you stated, this staff member's sibling is a frequent ban evader. Even if we had an "automated" sorting system, it's not going to thoroughly filter everyone out. This is why IPchecks are done manually by seniors. The seniors need to be trained to tell how to filter people out. It may sound good (believe me, i've suggested this before) but doing it manually is always the best solution.

oh and vpns
those are very common these days
not that hard to use

Well again, if it's not going to cut out that big of a portion it's not worth it, but still the less the better?

I was playing kitmap and I messaged this guy saying stop or ill recird you and he replied with "go ahead I have unlimited VPNs and an alt generator" ... lol he didn't even deny it

Very possible to filter those "cheap" vpns, not sure what this is capable of though.

I hope you realise so many people change their IP, when i ban evqded. Loads i did all the time

Xuph November 1, 2016 at 6:11 AM UTC

I really don't like how the staff take the sibilings situation into account wayyyyy too much
I'd rather have them ip banned and even if they have a sister or brother that play avicus well too bad for them they shouldnt have hacked, also most players find that excuse rly easy to abuse so icould get banned, bs that was my brother and there we go. also dont tell me that i need to get on ts i woudlve easily gotten a friend or my dad xd to say something and there we go

I'd rather use IP bans, plus the public vpn blocker that kohi used to use.

So your saying that a sibling. Is in charge on making sure their sibling doesn't get banned on a server on MINECRAFT?lmao

when did i say this? i tried to say that id rather have sibilings banned than people bullshitting about them having sibilings and let having ban evade. most servers dont take sibilings etc into account, and it works out really well.

Yeah but your saying that if i have a sibling who's banned then i it ta make sure he doesn't ban evade cause if he does i cant play either

Yes

its not the servers fault that they broke the rules, and its should be a policy in the server that you need to be responsible. i know it sounds not fair but again, id rather have these situations and they will be less and not abusable by ban evaders. also as i stated every other server other than avicus does it and it works well

With the sibling issue, the server has 40 ppl online at a time MAX. I don't think that a sibling of a hacker playing is a bad thing for us

It's sad but it's true.

shaarpie November 1, 2016 at 9:11 AM UTC

Dynamic IPs are really common, idk why people use VPNs to evade...

nobody said its bad? i was trying to say, for the millionth time, that people bs about it and say that they do have sibilings when they dont to let off ban evading. i said that imo id rather have their "sibiling" banned than have them keep hacking and ban evading thx

I gotta agree with u, it's the other ones fault, they shouldn't have cheated

resepignev November 1, 2016 at 2:11 PM UTC

To add onto what shaarpie said, dynamic ips are very common.
I have the "blessing" that my ISP is able to generate a new IP in seconds (actually the router can restart in seconds and a new ip will be generated) and I can easily restart it with an web interface.
So if I was an ban evader I could get a new account and a new ip in less than a minute, so ip bans wouldn't affect me in the slightest. And even if someone doesn't has such a great router, it would take like 5 minutes to unplug the router wait some minutes and plug it back in to get a new ip.

Pretty much this. Unless there's a counter for dynamic IPs, there's not much chance of this method succeeding.

Agreed.

Derumisis November 1, 2016 at 4:11 PM UTC

VPNs can easily be also blocked from users from ban-evading. You should get known FREE vpns and block their IPs,  and popular paid ones. Also get creative with user verification.

Spoookeh November 1, 2016 at 4:11 PM UTC

If the sr staff want Avicus to grow they need to think about this.

You can't be manually ip checking with a 300+ player count. Takes long enough with a player count of 40.

ImRaging November 1, 2016 at 4:11 PM UTC

Well as long as there is a staff member on then this shouldnt rly be a problem lol
