Java question by veryangerydoggo May 3, 2015 at 4:05 PM UTC

So, I just downgraded from 1.8 to 1.7.2 and I was wondering if you got an FPS boost on 1.8 from switching from Java 32 bit to Java 64 bit, would I get an FPS boost on 1.7.2 if I switched from Java 32 bit to Java 64 bit?

Mojang/Minecraft confirmed that if you use the 64bit version of java for minecraft 1.8 you get a fps boost, but for a maximal boost you have to turn Vbos on.
I believe for any versions under 1.8, so 1.7.9, 1.7.2, etc. it doesn't matter if you use 32bit or 64bit java.

Wait, but with the new launcher you don't need java at all. It's already added automagically when you download Minecraft.

I'm pretty sure that you can uninstall Java on your computer entirely if you only Java for Minecraft. It chooses the version that you need automagically. :D
