Internet modem help by FrozenSolstice December 1, 2014 at 9:12 AM UTC

Hey guys,

So, I'm moving house to a rural area, and it seems to be a blackspot with most carriers when I use my phone. Would internet modems still pick up internet if connected to a landline or not?

Thanks!

It should be fine, since phone carriers use cellular towers, and landlines travel in the ground. Unless, of course, the internet provider doesn't cover that area.

AAPT covers the area, so it will work?

I don't see why it shouldn't, but if you're unsure, I would suggest contacting them first.

If you have a land-line to your house, most providers of landline also provide DSL/ASDL service which comes through the phone line.  You get your internet connection through the DSL service, so ask around with your provider! Usually all you need is to order the service, and they will send you a splitter that divides you landline to a connection for the phone, and a connection for your modem/router.
