November 11th by Numberz_ November 11, 2015 at 5:11 AM UTC

As most if you may be aware of today is Remembrance Day (Veterans Day in the U.S.A). This day is very symbolic to me and most Canadians/Americans and others around the world, it is the day we take the time to honor those that served for our countries. We also remember those that have fought and perished in all world conflicts and peace keeping missions throughout history. 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the famous poem by Major John McCrea In Flanders Fields. (Video)

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

The poem represents the importance of the poppy, a simple flower that means so much, wear it close to your heart to respect those who gave us our freedom. Also every Remembrance Day people around the world are asked to observe two minutes of silence starting at 11am local time to honor all those that served and to respect those who have fallen. Take the time today to think of all the brave men and women that gave up their lives to protect our freedom, never forget what they did for us.

Merci, Lest we forget

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning.

We Will Remeber Them

Lest we forget.

Also had an assembly at school about this, with the 2 minutes of silence and speeches. Engrossing time indeed, although I almost sneezed during the 2 minutes of silence. .-.

Lest we forget.
