OCN was a great server that flourished alongside Avicus. It is a shame to see them go. They are basically our sister server and we should be gracious to them. Any trash talk about OCN on this post will be removed - LFT.
This is bad news for us too... now kylo has nowhere to steal from. Seriously though, if a bigger and more developed server such as OCN is shutting down I can't really imagine that avicus will survive much longer either.

Rip ocn
NO
Avicus is a great server
that strives on a great community and an even better staff team. You cyberbully
srsly rip ocn :( was just getting into the competitive scene there... i guess no more AoA corner cannons, ginie1 SS god carry, and Maxi combo 3v1 on versatile D:
nah but now that OCN isn't a thing, not many OCN players will move to Avicus, a few will but they won't all stay here. making the tourneys being mostly Avicus-teams only now rip
Lmao, I'm honestly not surprised. For the love of god I wouldn't even play 1.9 OCN if I was perm banned on here. The server used to be really good though, and the community was really nice and didn't have much salt.
nah but now that OCN isn't a thing, not many OCN players will move to Avicus, a few will but they won't all stay here. making the tourneys being mostly Avicus-teams only now rip
so ya let's merge it isn't a bad idea believe me
Yeah, OCN said that they didnt have the money to keep the server going, why not merge :)
OCN was a great server, I guess they must have not managed their finances as well as funky did or they would have continued. Hope that Avicus stays strong for a while.
I remember when I found out about ocn and everything it had. I've probably spent over a 1 month searching up on ocn and competitive stuff and matches over the year
First of all, ArchyBot is going to do something and you say it as if Avicus have a lot of money.
If Archybot was to buy OCN he probably wouldn't know where to place it within Badlion and end up killing it like various other minigames/sections such as Warfare and Kohi Games or simply won't know how to handle the competitive scene as previously seen in the 1K tourney, making the trade not worth and killing the scene as well

If Archybot were to buy OCN he would most likely allow OCN staff to transfer over and take care of OCN via badlion.
but the UHC skids would turn the server shit, type of niggas to break cobwebs at the defense and make a rod

I didn't say Avicus had a lot of money and thats not what I meant it to sound like at all. I was just saying that together they could have enough money to keep the server going.
I joined OCN before Avicus, so yay Initially I thought it would be good for Avicus, but OCN is dying for a reason. Most players will probably leave the game when OCN shuts down. I guess it would help a bit
And now part of them is going to come here with OCN-like suggestions, maps, criticism and jokes So I am already triggered :#
Not trying to be an asshole but majority of the people who were are on OCN are probably gonna quit MC or join Badlion(a lot of ocn players already mainly played BL in the first place).
Some people will probably come to Avicus though, which I can see as a good thing.
This is actually extremely depressing to me. I joined OCN (back then Project Ares) almost 4 years ago when it was only one server and they had just released PGM 2.0. I played there a lot until I made some major mistakes and unfortunately was removed from all contact with the server. This is an extremely sad day for me since I still really think of OCN as my original Minecraft home. Sure, the community has changed since I left, but it still has the roots of one of the best communities and servers I have been a part of. I used to religiously watch Apple's streams and would even watch and re-watch old archives. I have tears on my keyboard at this points so I'll wrap up this part of the post.
I urge you all to not trash OCN in any way, as it will just make us look back. I urge you all to embrace new players with open arms and to make them feel welcome. I personally don't think it would be right for us to use OCN maps, since they were built for that network and the community that originally played there. The core maps, such as the race for victory series and other extremely nostalgic maps, were built by the first real players of OCN, and they would have never thought that this day would come just a mere 3 1/2 years later. Out of respect for their creativity and ideas, it just wouldn't seem right to just take them without their explicit permission. I would love to play OCn maps, but only on OCN.
If you've read this far, I thank you for reading my entire post and hope this has touched you in some way. Thank you OCN for all you have done and the groundbreaking innovations that are seen in Avicus today. Without you, I would not be here, and I love you for that. - ALM

I agree with you but id also hate to see all the maps on nostalgia to be lost. Badlion said they would help in anyway the could they have a topic on their forums.

Extremely disappointed. I've always considered it one of the better servers still in action, regardless of past incidents with this one.
Likely nobody will read this, but I'd like to just share my part of the story for a minute. Overcast was a breeding ground for new and experienced players in the technical aspects of the actual game and PvP as a whole. Many of these players have moved on to greater things because of this. My personal experience with the server dates back years ago when I started playing to gain a better understanding for the tactical part of DTM and DTC gameplay. Then I began meeting with some regulars on the server who, while appearing intimidating, were very helpful in giving advice to me to become a better overall player, not to mention being very friendly and accepting to someone completely new and fresh to the idea of cannons, skybridges, the whole core idea, you name it. I still talk with many of these people today. From there, I learned to participate in big tournaments with people far above my own skill level on both Overcast and Avicus, winning various awards with said teams respectively. I've met more people than I can remember and I've grasped a new level of tactical and technical abilities in game, making me who I am today. I wouldn't be me if it weren't for what OCN brought to me. I'd probably still be building fucking houses in singleplayer if I hadn't stumbled into the right places and met the right people.
This all being said, the same goes for Avicus. Avicus wouldn't be the same without OCN. We've learned from them. We've adapted to their mistakes, embraced their players when possible - allowing new ideas to come in and new players to come out, and let's be honest, a large majority of our influence is off of them. Saying we copied them is a glorified, Avicus biased way of saying that we influence each other. If OCN and its players were non-existent, we wouldn'y have TNT maps and skybridgers until much later than they popped up now, most likely. And please tell me something, how many OCN players have been staff on this server, and still are? While this may not apply the other way around, much of our community was/is part of theirs. I can name at least 20 players off the top of my head that were regulars on both servers and within their relative communities. We used to rely on each other, now I don't know what this means for Avicus, only time will tell.
But seriously, I think it's crazy that they're doing this. it's like something from a dream - or a nightmare more appropriately.
OCN was a great server, I guess they must have not managed their finances as well as funky did or they would have continued. Hope that Avicus stays strong for a while.
I don't think they "didn't manage well", its just that they got lot more costs and more expensive ones than Avicus

Well said.
This is also a chance for us as a server and a community to step up and ensure it doesn't happen to us. Surprisingly Avicus still has a long way to go too.
I don't think they "didn't manage well", its just that they got lot more costs and more expensive ones than Avicus
Yeah, they spent too much money proportional to their size, that's not managing well. And I'm not an expert, but if we are still here there's a high chance that they could still be here.
I loved this server. I've been through many projects: Avalanche, Avicus, Override, ActionPvP: but the special one in my heart that got me into competitive Minecraft was Overcast. I first joined in 2012 and made a lot of friends along the way, but everyone was going. Either it was loss of interest, people moving for their studies, but I stayed here even at my busiest times to stay true to the same server I've loved for 4 years. I was proud to be one of the longer standing (non-promoted) refs, and I loved helping out with tournaments. The competitive scene has always interested me, and it broke my heart when I got demoted, but it broke my heart even more knowing that this server is just gone in an instant. It really puts it into perspective.
Thank you for these amazing years. Hard to think, I was in 5th grade (elementary) when I started playing and I just finished 9th grade and am on my way to 10th grade (high school). This has been here for longer than anyone has for me, and I adore the staff, maps, community, plugins, and mission of the server.
This is sad, but we can look on the positives, at least some of the players from OCN will switch to Avicus. Allowing us to have more players & games :D

Although I wish... it stayed D:
1.9 WAS EVIL.....
Overcast 1.9 was actually really good because they fixed everything that was wrong with 1.9 PVP
I know.... but 1.9 was one of the reasons the server went down.... But 1.9 was responsible for making them loose half of their players
Just so you know, OCN had been losing players since before 1.9. iirc when 1.9 came out, we ddint have much more than 800-1000 players at ocn (and maybe that number is wrong completely, I feel like it was actually much lower)

Most OCN players will probably swap to Badlion now that they're remaking some of their gamemodes (If you have no clue on what I'm talking about check their forums out)

Most of them pretty much already play Badlion anyway.

each rotation is located on a different server, so yes.
Ahah! So then surely money is being wasted on CTW rotations, SG, TDM, Nexus, Walls and CTH ones too? So I suggest only one rotation on those gamemodes. With that spare money perhaps we could host a couple of Overcast map rotations?
Yes, I know the only spare ones would be 2 sg and 2 walls servers.
Always went on OCN to practice my defenses and so on. Seriously, when it shuts down, I'm going to miss it tons.
But maybe you dont have to worry so much about ur defense practicing, because its still a little bit of time left to practice and maybe you know almost everything you have to know about it ;)

You could maybe actually remove the other games that no1 plays on this server, until we get more players to play every single game..?
OCN has been my home since early 2013, and allowed me to discover Avicus a year later after some people where shit talking it on Nostalgia. It's been a great server, and being part of the event team has been even more special. Just lost a lot of motivation to continue playing minecraft :(
srsly rip ocn :( was just getting into the competitive scene there... i guess no more AoA corner cannons, ginie1 SS god carry, and Maxi combo 3v1 on versatile D:
As an OCN player. I could give my side of the story. As I have been playing there for about 1 .5 years I have noticed a player drop. Everyday there would be less players on the server, but it was still about 350-500 players, so all was good. But then once it fully updated to 1.8 it lossed a good 50-100 players going down to a not so good 250-400, still a decent amount, but not enough. I still played the server and loved it. Eventually reaching 100 wools, and then just a few months later 200. Then I started to become very inactive, I was already inactive, and then the monster came. 1.9 *dramatic music* Once 1.9 came out I usually went on OCN a good 1 a month. I got very inactive. So inactive I made a forums post about me semi quitting. But then something brought me back. I think it was myself missing OCN and the great community. When 1.9 came I wasn't the only player to "quit". The player count right now is "209" But when it first switched to 1.9, I saw times where there were just 50 players on... Thats when I knew that OCN might shutdown sometime soon. I didn't think this soon of course. But I hope this could clear some stuff up about OCN for you Avicus players. Atleast your player count will go up. Maybe people will actually play CTW on here after it closes :/
Sorry for calling you out in this but I do not agree. The community wasn't ignored.
Yes, we didn't downgrade to 1.7, although it was what most people wanted, but you know there isn't a "1.7 switch" that you can flip.
Also, blaming the staff team, who all have worked so hard to keep the network running, isn't a beautiful thing to say. Just saying.
Only time the community was listened to properly that I remember was with togglesprint when the staff claimed that freeing up your pinky finger, keep in mind a hell of a lot of people use the mod, is a big enough advantage to ban it. It felt more like it was added to the allowed mods list because their argument was beyond incoherent. Didn't listen with versions, didn't listen with the tournament and the list goes on. It really isn't just 1.7/1.8, it was a lot of different things that that brought the server down.
Btw idrc, people can have their own opinions, I'm always up for discussions.

We learn from OCN and make sure we don't make the same mistakes, we have a lot to thank them for
As an OCN player who has stayed there for a 3-4+ years, this is truly saddening and without OCN, i wouldn't have discovered you guys. It is a shame that OCN and Avicus got off on the wrong foot. When I said my goodbye ama, I was actually tearing up no joke because it has become a home for me. Yes at the time, there were other big popular mc servers like hypixel but there was none other than OCN an its really sad. Sure the staff back then didn't do such a great job with their mistakes but they did their best. To all the Avicus community, please learn from these mistakes because Avicus has become a second home. I know most of you do not know me as I do not really come here often (years actually) but Avicus has great potential to become something greater so do not give up guys!
Anyways, I will still be inactive in MC because i just grew out of it and probs going to be at the forums but once OCN offically shuts down, I will reside in Avicus for the time being <3

Avicus welcomes you with full arms opened I hope you stay with this wonderful network. OCN was a big brother to us and I to have learnt a lot from OCN. My deepest regret is that I did not find OCN earlier enough :(
when i first joined OCN, about a year ago, I wasn't very good at minecraft but i enjoyed the server... And when i saw Avicus, the most amazing server I've actually been playing on I left, for just 1 reason... To play on Avicus... Since that, I haven't been playing on OCN until... A few weeks ago... I think the server is awesome, the great CTW... It's like home for CTW... And the type of defenses are so different to those DTM Defenses... There they make like a wall of workbenches, and alot more things that is way more complicated than these... And by thinking about it now, I think it should've been very useful for me to not stop playing on the server for a while, because I think I should've known ALOT mor eabout defenses and stuff....
R.I.P OCN.....:c You will always be remembered by your players, and the Avicus community. Thank you for providing players for years of fun! It was a real pleasure while it lasted. Hope that all your players will find new homes or move on in their lives.
Sincerely, Mr.Penguin
Didn't OCN invent Breezily bridging? Didn't Breezily_ come from OCN?
