Okay so I'm making a montage coming soon and I'm going to be recording footage veeeeeery soon. And guess what:
15 fps isn't cutting it.
So I need some new recording software that's free and doesn't butcher my fps too too much (anything that'll run me about 30 fps is fine).
Anyone have suggestions?

The obs thingy everyone talks about.
I use Screenflow, for Mac only... yeah that's not gonna help :T

Fraps.. Maybe
idk it messes with my fps sometimes, but isn't too bad. You can get it for free if you look hard enough ;D

I use fraps and I get a good framerate.

I use fraps, which will rek your fps.. so I recommend these :):
https://mirillis.com/en/products/action.html - Action, a really good recording software for you to use (Cons: Has a tag on it whilst recording) Tag? An advertisment for people to go buy/Download your software,
Or
Bandicam, Now this one is a bit harsh towards your PC/MAC but it will get around at 30-60 fps with a decent computer,
http://www.bandicam.com/. :) hope dis helped!

OBS is the only free program I know of that does your requirements for free legally

Your title scared me xD
Lower your settings first, that will help it a LOT.
Use OBS or screencast-o-matic, but SCOM uses a watermark and can only record 15 minutes each clip.

I use Mirillis Action (It's not free, I'm not encouraging piracy or anything though)
It's very lag free, especially if you use the region selection mode, it's like you get no framedrop. The demo version has all the features of the normal one, except it lasts for 30 days and you get a watermark.

I heard OBS is really good.
If you can go paid, i'd recommend Mirillis Action, I get almost no lag from recording, the free version has a watermark, but no other limits.

Action is only 30$
I guess you could try to get shadowplay to work if you have nvidia, if not, action is your best choice

You'll have to get a new computer. I would get 30 fps on average on my old laptop, but when I record it goes down to 15-20.
