Well, since 1.8 came out recently, does this mean we can build maps on 1.8? I know that Avicus will not be updating for some time, but when we do, can these 1.8 maps be looked at? Just because new blocks, mobs, and such. Thanks!

You can, but you should consider it may take some time untill avicus will be updated to 1.8
