What Happened? by Cezbla May 22, 2016 at 8:05 PM UTC

Just out of curiosity, how did this server go from 1000 people, then 300-500, and now 50?

Numberz_ May 22, 2016 at 8:05 PM UTC

Bad choices all around. Staff, gameplay, lack of ads, lag, etc.

Because of the stultification of naive administrators and the good ones already left. Main problems were block lag, removal of prestiges, removal of many great gamemodes and the modernization which led to the complete downfall of the server. With Minecraft having shit updates, it even made the situation better for players to leave, so it's not only the server's fault.

@Devs: We don't want new great stuff, we want the old good stuff. That's the reason why we used to play on this server!

EDIT: The abusive part of staff and they're sometimes bad behaviour in non-avicus platforms are terrible too.
A good example is right beneath me ^^

Arigenn May 22, 2016 at 8:05 PM UTC

Step 2: Stop blaming an individual. Thanks. Victimising a person doesn't help in any way whatsoever.

welcome back to distressful server

gobernment May 22, 2016 at 9:05 PM UTC

Dear Howsie, I wrote you but you still ain't calling
I left the player count, the server, and my promotion at the bottom
Two admins got demoted back in autumn, you must not-a saw 'em
There probably was a problem in the staff departments or something
Sometimes I scribble policies too sloppy when I jot 'em
but anyways; Howsie, what's been up? Man how's your day been?
My rants in Avicus Lounge, too, I understand your problem
If I have a daughter, guess what I'ma call her? I'mma name her Pinkie
I read about your demotion, too, I'm sorry
I had a senior mod retire over some exams who did a bother
I know you probably hear this everyday, but I'm your biggest fan
I even remember your christmas lobby and your head in the library

1 or 2 people have slagged avicus off and said how shit it was in this post and I don't even think they play it anymore lol

Also has positivity helped the server so far? Yeah it has, it bought its player count down from respectable numbers to 50 on a good day. The gameplay is good but the staff is disorganised as fuck and has only gotten worse. Keep thinking positive and assume that shit is coming and the server will die out, that's exactly what happened to mcpvp.

<sarcasm> The people "trying to keep it alive" are doing a swell job! </sarcasm>

I personally stopped playing the server a few months ago, but I don't want to see it die. Atdit is most likely the same way. We saw when it was great then watched as it slowly crumbled away into a shadow of its former self. 50 players max isn't enough to keep this server around for ever. Drama has killed it, too many shit admins that started doing one thing then left before it was completed. Once Atlas gets here and advertising picks up (hopefully) then there might be a change.

But in the meantime, start looking for YouTubere that have large audiences to create a slightly larger playerbase. :-:

You need to create a normal gameplay that people will enjoy playing. From personal experience, most people won't actually stick to a server that their youtuber plays, unless it's good. If it won't be good, players will just come on once their youtuber is on. But we need to make them stay. I've noticed that many randies really dislike several maps because some of them are confusing af. where is the weekly thread about removel and changing of maps? that was a great idea and gave the community the opportuinity to pick the map they like by a majority vote. also, advertise the thread on the broadcast so randies can vote too. maps are not only thing.
staff didn't improve imo, they stayed as. admins left wayyy too frequently and stupid decisions were made all over. ive always seen this as an issue, idk why, but i feel this is the actually one of our biggest issues right now: we have 3 admins, and all 3 of them HAVE TO BE involved with everything. im sorry, but you cant have funky dedicated to only dev work. ik hes busy af, but from when i was staff too ive noticed he doesnt wanna get involved in staff work etc and staff demotions. meanwhile hes the only person we call all trust to do the right decision, he leaves it for other admins. like in paras demotion, senior staff team decided to demote him. in a demotion of an admin, FUNKY AND ONLY FUNKY should be involved. all 3 admins need to be aware of all aspects of the servers: dev work (doesnt mean they have to know how to code), staff demotions promotions, im sorry funky but imo you really do need to take part in all that, ik how much youre busy.

2. You are from what everyone has seen and experienced, if you truly were organised we would've seen it but it doesn't seem that way at all. There are people in my teamchat who are moderators themselves who even agree with me on this one.
3. The way I see it avicus is already a corpse just not fully decayed. The positivity hasn't exactly helped people stay has it now? More of the hope that avicus will become great again has tbh. Not saying this one for myself as I couldn't care less about this but I find it funny when people say to stop being so negative especially when many are the complete opposite. It literally is what I read on mcpvp a couple of months before it died lol

  1. Sarcasm isn't exactly easy to interpret through a screen. It's almost as if they're just words on a screen that you can't tell apart from sincere sentences...Oh wait.
  2. I'm not saying that the team isn't disorganised. If you look at what I said, I clearly said we're not as disorganised as some think.

1. ??? Profit. It was quite obvious I was being sarcastic. You don't need to be a genius to be able to tell that considering the context.
2. So... you are saying that the team is disorganised but organised to an extent? Pick one side, in your opinion is the staff team organised or disorganised? You responding in this way just shows how disorganised the staff team is. You can't even tell us that the staff is organised, it hasn't been for nearly 2 years, people have a right to complain at you and be negative.
3. They should do. The negative comments raise concerns and deliver a message much better than the positive ones. It is up to the staff how these points are then tackled, and you obviously don't tackle them well otherwise people wouldn't be complaining about the same shit for months/years.

  1. No, it's not very clear. It's why people tend to only use sarcasm in person, and not on a keyboard unless the sarcasm is explicit. Since this is petty and irrelevant, I'm just going to drop this.
  2. I'm saying that while the staff team is far from the most organised system in the world (trust me, I know) but the way some players describe it they make it seem as if no decisions are ever made.
  3. As I'm not a senior or an admin, there's a limit to how much I can do to address these points. However, comments such as "1 step: Demote yourself. Thanks" aren't just lacking in constructive criticism, they also just serve as a reminder to staff members that no matter what they do, some players will also criticise them and act as if everything is their fault.

No, negative comments rarely help. It's constructive comments that show what is good and what is bad and needs to be changed. Saying that demoting "demote yourself" is not helpful.

The end of last summer basically killed Avicus and began a cycle of 5 admins. Now the current state of affairs doesnt help the case. Not to mention many mods feel entitled to defend the seniors till death. When in reality they have no clue what they are saying and make the staff look unprofessional. As people have said 300 times now. However, this thread will get locked people will not accept whats really killing avicus (poor leadership) and then gang up on those who know what they are doing. Causing a cycle which will result in the wilting of Avicus' corpse. /o/ opinion no archive /o/

Hello? You living on earth? Look at the playerbase. There is nothing more important right now than that. That's an obvious mark that the staff haven't made good decisions. I don't think you need evidence to see the playerbase has decreased by a lot - that's what this whole post is about.

Zegita May 23, 2016 at 9:05 PM UTC

well I'm going to give some constructive feedback to what avicus should do hope this actually gets looked at and reviewed:

-bring back the map community forum post that eric brought up - that was a pretty good way of putting up maps and seeing if they are good or bad or need removing or keeping
-keep competitive going; 20 teams this tournament is pretty good considering before there were a max of 8-10 teams if you keep the competitive going trust me you will see an increase of players overtime
-dedicated staff that are actually willing to contribute instead of just being there because they have to as it is their job
-better maps i'm sorry to those map makers but try make some good quality maps by adding some good features such as like different ways for different objectives etc. maps are decentish right now however we need a varied of maps as players will just get bored of the repeated ones that we have essentially played for for over 6 months.

also stop arguing between one another it's just not really needed and what we need to do is help each other in the community but if you can't do that then nobody can do anything to contribute

papagoogs May 23, 2016 at 9:05 PM UTC

@mods You could be doing so much more than just arguing back with people, you've probably wasted hours doing this from other threads too if you don't like the shit they're giving you then just ignore it and mention it in slack or something, it's as if you spend hours and hours arguing with regulars and then don't even submit their ideas to the slack or anything, shows a good moderator to players relationship there

Riilo May 24, 2016 at 8:05 AM UTC

Well... it all started with... LONG STORY!!

Once upon a time, Funkystudios removed pretiges.

THE END!

No, but honestly, this affected atleast 50% of our former player-base.  Shit decisions admins made, same with kylo's decision.

And a whole lot of other shit, that ruined the other 50% of our player base.

IcyCode May 24, 2016 at 8:05 AM UTC

So this is why I don't play anymore:
- The main reason is it's boring, it's the same repetitive game every single time with little challenge etc...
- The staff are completely biased, don't commit to anything and well don't listen (for example no one cared whatsoever about my feedback in my leaving post)
- Lack of updates, hardly any updates happen at all, you need to have more smaller updates to keep players interested not waiting 12+ months for one update...
- This server is dead now, it can be revived IF there are a set of admins who are willing to really push the boat out and sort this place out, by that I mean committing ALOT of time to the network by taking onboard criticism and sorting out the situation. Quite frankly I believe that won't happen so yeah this server = dead.

*rant done, prepares for no notice to be taken*

If you're going to quote someone to prove a point. Make sure the quote is correct. Otherwise you look like a complete moron.

Posighdun said "This isn't a democracy" in response to people who were complaining that regulars weren't getting a say when threads were being locked.

Players getting a say as to whether threads should be locked or not is just fucking stupid. But let me get back to my point.

If you don't know the context of a quote AND get that quote wrong, your point of invalid and you look like an idiot.

Posighdun said "this isn't a democracy" in regards to that specific situation, not in regards to all server activity.

So do some research before you quote something you only vaguely remember.

If you're going to quote someone to prove a point. Make sure the quote is correct. Otherwise you look like a complete moron.

Posighdun said "This isn't a democracy" in response to people who were complaining that regulars weren't getting a say when threads were being locked.

Omg, maaaan, you are sooo ruuuuude.
I know all that stuff.
You can you use any quotes in any situations. It doesn't matter, was he talking about post locking or about other stuff.
It is very suitable here. Super suitable.
I will sue you. Oh, wait... There isn't a democracy ;P

I don't appreciate it when quotes are taken out of context to prove a point.

Hey, look, it is what admin (!) thinks about players' opinions. And it shows whole situation on server.
Tadaaaa, gotcha :D

the shit in this thread would be considered flame wars/off topic but when staff are involved with the flame war/off topic it makes the posts alright...
A flame war is only when people go off topic and start throwing insults/unnecessary remarks at each other. This is a discussion.

Again, you've taken it out of context.

It was a response for the scenario if the community was not ok if a thread was locked despite off topic arguments were being had on the thread.

Threads should be locked if off topic arguments take place. If people don't like that then tough.

That is why Posighdun said that "this isn't a democracy".

It wasn't his opinion on other players' opinions,
it was his opinion on why threads that contain off topic arguments should be locked regardless of how players personally feel.

Please try and understand the context of a quote before you misinterpret it and use it out of context.

Actually he said that referring to the power of the mods in making decisions.

You know this post was created from a question and since his question has been answered, maybe it's time to lock.  Plus there isn't a need to argue anymore. The staff team know the community is pissed and continuing to fight gets really old.

Step 2: Stop blaming an individual. Thanks. Victimising a person doesn't help in any way whatsoever.

"Welcome to Avicus Alert, today, we will discuss what happened on Cezbla's thread, it is the exact same thing like every other angry thread.  Regulars blowing things out of proportion and staff getting too defensive about it. Let's read every individual comment shall we?"

Refer to the post above.

And yes, I'm "living on earth", unless there's WIFI on Mars.
You are such a petty mod. Maintain a professional attitude on the forums while you still have that moderator tag.

There is no right or wrong answer, nor is their one answer to your question. It's been a combination of multiple things that have added up.

Locking thread as the question has been answered.
