Are we allowed to get inspiration or copy maps off of video game levels?
Such as: Mario, super smash bros, etc

There's nothing wrong with using the style of how a map is made from another map.

Don't name your map after a video game, copyright issues may occur if the map where to be accepted.

Well actually, the level is called starshine beach galaxy. But it's still kinda similar

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Star only said you can't use the name of the video game; he never mentioned the name of the level. Moreover, this page states that the title of a game is treated like its concept in the sense that it's too broad to be copyrighted. If that's the case, then I doubt something as petty as borrowing — for nonprofit purposes — the name "Starshine Beach" would raise any legal issues. What do you think?
