Staff .-.

In a game off Nebula there was a hacker so I reported as I am suppose to about 10 mins no staff. I went a checked the staff page and saw none were online and some haven't been online for days/weeks. We need active staff .-. ps lock this if you want to.
I report them. If no staff come within 2 minutes I usually whip up my recording software and take matters into my own hands. The report them on the forums :)
Ok.. We do need more staff but... I'm in a sh*tty school.. xD and im free almost RIGHT after i get home.. And even tho i do sometimes get (Out of hand .-. i guess) I learned how to control my anger... So when staff apps come up, totally applying
Honestly, saying "+1 more staff" is doing nothing. The apps will not instantly open after a certain amount of +1s. Everybody is just gonna have to be patient and wait for the apps to open.
(I know I'm not on the staff team anymore) but yeah the staff team is always looking for new staff members but we want to make sure we do have quality staff members. I'd rather have 25 give or take quality staff members than 40 of them who are all pretty bad. The staff applications should be open soon as I hope so we will be getting more staff.
Some people are busy with school, and some staff are on leave.
Even tho they are, there will always be players who deservs it that can be on. And this guy is right, we do need more staff. School is a good excuse, but I still think you can get on like once a day, and a lot off staff doesn't. I don't want to start a flame war. I'm just syaing my opinion.
And I've been staff on a pretty big pvp server aswell, so I know how it feels to be a member off the staff.
Your report will be looked into and will be dealt with whenever staff can get on to check the person that you are reporting, considering if he or she will be on at same time as staff member, or be like other people and record and post video here (^_^) If staff were getting paid in real life I am pretty sure every staff member would be on but considering this is a volunteer server, then what exactly do you expect o_O?
It is apparent that you're quite mad at how low the staff count is currently. Am I correct? This is why we're always looking out for potential candidates.
Well guess what. Youre right. We need more staff. And more map devs, and more devs in general, and more maps for CTH and Avicade, and more Youtubers, and more maturity.
Does it look like I'm complaining? Stating the obvious just makes me annoyed for some reason.

This server also needs more people, because you can't get all these famous people to do everything. What this server needs to get even more famous people, and then maybe it can advance a lot more.

School > Minecraft. Even if we have more staff, this problem is inevitable.
I agree the mod to player ratio is severely lacking. We only have 27 staff. 20 are moderators.
Lets say Avicus has around 600 players on average on the servers. That's 30 players per moderator. That may not seems like much but imagine 30 people in a room with 1 person qualified to try and control them.
I agree Avicus needs more staff but deciding who is good enough to become a mod is an extremely difficult task to do. There are hundreds of applications sent in when they're open, out of those hundreds only several are chosen so it's a difficult task to accomplish.
I find it unfair when people say "We need more staff! Hurry up and pick 'em!" because if it were truly that easy then we'd be fine with the staff-to-player ratio.
So just be patient with all of this mod stuff. Only time will tell when it happens :)
Some stay could be busy with school, others could still be on holiday. Staff are there to 'Moderate' the server, but they have a life outside of minecraft as well. What you can also do is the record the hacker and online report. It might take longer but the player will still get punished. If you do nothing, he or she wont.

That's assuming that all staff are online. It's more likely a person in a room trying to control a hundred other people.

All the more reason to choose worthy players and get the mod count up? Personally I don't see any other way to better the situation. Unfortunately, there aren't enough moderators on this server and I know it's a tough ask but it's the truth :(

Yeah, were in process of changing some things around with regards to staff.
I few of the high staff seem kind of inactive too.. I looked at their times they were last on and a good few of them had not been on for days, one even 8 days which without a valid excuse like a holiday is not good. One of my pet hates is when the people in charge never play on the server but that said a good few do play ingame and are active so that is good to see. Regardless I think it needs to be addressed.. There is one Sr.Mod in particular who is ne'er ingame (was the 8 day person) and never ever really seems to get involved with players and discussions on the forum.

I disagree. When it comes to the higher-ups of the staff team, they're in charge of a lot of stuff behind the scenes-things that may not involve being on the servers but things that still involve Avicus.
But I see where you're coming from, inactive mods aren't good for a server who needs hands on deck.

While true, surely they cannot be that busy that they are unable to play for an hour. I mean Managers and up are the only ones with access to console so only they might be busy with plugins and whatnot but that is unlikely since Ivy is the only dev.
To be honest I still don't know what makes a Manager different to a Sr.Mod apart from simply the rank.
its good for high staff to show their face on the server now and again. It gives moral to the troops so to speak. For example, on Hypixel when he would join a lobby, eeryone would freak out and start crying almost. I mean I would bet that most players wouldn't even know some high staff's name which is sad :/
Though staff have different things to do then minecraft
They have school
editing things on server
social life
playing on different servers
having fun
living life
and that's it.
"and that's it"
That's not fair is it? Everything that you have listed takes a lot of time to do. By simply listing it and saying "this is all they do, it's not much" is an unfair, false point of view on someone's life outside of Minecraft.

We currently have two Senior Moderators who are extremely busy with real life situations.

Although I cannot answer you question fully, I know that managers do a lot more behind the scenes than Sr.Mods. Not taking anything away from Sr.Mods of course but Managers have more responsibilities than Sr.Mods. Though I'm not exactly sure of the specifics.

You say you know they do more stuff behind the scenes yet you really don't know. You are just assuming they do more since they are the higher rank, yet Sr.Mods seem to be running the support email and they often post much more frequently than the Managers and I personally see then ingame a lot more (no disrespect intended, just something I have noticed)
So some clarity on what the difference is between Managers and Sr.Mods would be great.

There's truth to what you're saying. Personally, I don't really know what splits a Manager and a Sr.Mod but I was just assuming they did more because if there was no difference between the two ranks why would there be a Manager rank in the first place?

That may be because Manager roles are expected to change.
We have no extra physical power in the way of commands and actual control over the server over senior mods. We do however as stated do a lot more of the behind the scenes work and making important decisions.
