First what I love to do is mine out the whole moun place them start making layers of shooting places etc then I make a 3x3 wood room surrounded by buttons on the walls then ladders surrounding the moun then slabs on the floor then cover the floor of the whole defence with slabs then a cover over the whole defence in case of water towers don't make my defence unable to use. Then I usually camp the moun room. And if there more than one person there to shoot people bridging.(Pictures when I get home)
EDIT: I also make a glass floor for the first floor of the defence
