Avicus Archive

[ATTENTION] All forum users. by PictureFrames January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

Hello, everyone. I'd like to discuss a few topics that have been brought up on many, many separate occasions.

The activity on the forums recently has been wretched. I'm not sure if you all have noticed it, but the amount of spam threads, repeated threads, bumping, etc. It has to stop. Just because there may not be as many staff members on the forums as there are in game, this does not mean you have the ability to break the rules. Swearing, spamming, being rude to others, will not be tolerated.

Consider the entire Avicus Forum Community warned. We've been far too lenient on the forums, and that's going to come to an end very soon. Yeah, having fun is important. The forum is a place where you can chat, and have fun with the members of the community. However, the amount of "show your face" "favorite song" or "who's the best at PvP?" sort of threads, is annoyingly large.

It's basically based off of common sense. If you post a topic under "Avicus Lounge" that is completely irrelevant to Avicus, that's considered a spam topic. If a topic has let's say... A title such as "This is very important" and the actual thread message is "hey" that is considered spam. By repeated threads, I mean if you decide to make a thread that's almost exactly the same as one that has already been made at least four times before... Don't make the thread. It gets really annoying scrolling through the forums seeing the recent discussion section filled up with the same thread, created by multiple different players. And the rest of the rules are basically self explanatory... Don't be rude, don't harass one another, etc. Basic Avicus in game rules.

I know I've always been a very lenient staff member, and I'm sure you all know that I'm the kind of guy who loves to have fun. None of that is going to change, either. But the staff on multiple occasions have noticed spam threads, repeated threads, etc. A lot lately. To sum it up, consider this your final warning. If any more rule breaking is to continue, (Avicus regulars, you know who you are; and so do we) forum bans are a possibility.

Regards, -Jake

Thank you, Jake.

AutoHit January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

Thanks for posting this, hopefully the amount of spam threads, repeated threads, bumping, etc. will not happen again.

Emmaye January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

Yes, thank you.

Atheyna January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

But in all seriousness, thank you for this thread.  Hopefully we all learn from this.

ballzi January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

Thank you Jake. Hopefully the rule breakers learn from this.

mustafa January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

I honestly think the forum rules should be elaborated on, there isn't a clear line between a spam topic and a "fun topic"

IviFetita January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

Thank you very much, Jake. Thank you for clear it up, we had to have a thread as this in any moment or the spam was going to follow. :)

OriginaI January 6, 2015 at 2:01 AM UTC

Thanks for the update! Ill be sure to keep an eye out for you guys

I was wondering the same thing as mhanif, thanks for clearing this up!

Thanks Jake, this was needed.

chaibrit1 January 6, 2015 at 3:01 AM UTC

Thank you Jake for this topic, there have been far too many useless topics recently and thank you to all the staff members who were trying to keep it under control.

kycrafft January 6, 2015 at 3:01 AM UTC

Sorry of the "Spam post" earlier today.

Edit: put 50% of the blame on ducks :0

Porkyyy January 6, 2015 at 4:01 AM UTC

I'm very glad that you made this thread, Jake. I myself was getting quite annoyed with all of the repeated threads, and all of the forum spam. It has to stop at one point.
So thank you for making this, hopefully players will think twice before creating a spam topic.

FrostedCupcakez January 6, 2015 at 4:01 AM UTC

On a serious note thanks Jake for clearing this up =)

JJTheGuy January 6, 2015 at 4:01 AM UTC

Question, does this include AMA's? And what about necroing (bringing back very old topics)?

StewieFG January 6, 2015 at 5:01 AM UTC

My English is so bad that I go nothing from this post only forum bans and now I'm scared w_w

Bluecichlid January 6, 2015 at 5:01 AM UTC

I don't mean to sound condescending here, and I don't have any authority to say this, but it's just my personal opinion to add onto what Jake said:

Posting "this is a spam thread" and so on, however well meaning your intentions are, is just plain annoying, and in fact just make the thread even more spammer when 3 different people say it. If the staff deem a topic unnecessary or spam, I'm sure they will deal with it.

Also regarding bumping threads; if a player bumps a thread for a legitimate reason so as not to have to create a whole new topic, please don't just reply "dat bump" or such, unless of course the bump is irrelevant or unnecessary. I'd rather player's revived old threads that were relevant than creating new ones every few weeks.

Don't be discouraged from posting, but just think about whether it's necessary or not. Regards, Blue.

Excellent, thanks Jake C:

Thank you for making this, Jake!

Is it possible to introduce a Title-Tag-System? Like for Maps [Nexus], [Nebula DTM], [Avicade Red Alert] and so on. Or for questions [Question], forums games [Games], and so on. It would be much easier to differentiate between all the posts.
Oh and Thank ya for making such a post!

You can simply look at the category it's created in. I always do that to quickly identify what the thread is generally going to be about.

Robin_DD_J January 6, 2015 at 10:01 AM UTC

What about the endless AMAs?

Coco_stag January 6, 2015 at 10:01 AM UTC

all my topics keep getting locked idk when they are spam topics and when they are not?

If you're topics were locked, it's very likely they were locked for a legitimate reason.
A spam topic serves no real purpose, or is just unnecessary.

Spoookeh January 6, 2015 at 11:01 AM UTC

Thanks Jake for clearing things up

Splades January 6, 2015 at 5:01 PM UTC

Extremely lenient huh? That's why each and every one of my posts (even if they're not spam) get archived.

Myv January 6, 2015 at 6:01 PM UTC

Thanks for the thread, but not a lot of people (you know who they all are) who do these stupid threads and bump them will not listen to this.

ViolentBoo January 6, 2015 at 6:01 PM UTC

I'll stop swearing lol.

lactify January 6, 2015 at 7:01 PM UTC

Well put Jake. This should be stickied but it is basic common sense.

Rainstruck January 6, 2015 at 8:01 PM UTC

Thank you for posting tis. I am getting tired of looking through AMA threads anyways

This is exactly the type of behavior we are speaking of. It's the rude and unnecessary comments that are the most frustrating.

Sem January 6, 2015 at 8:01 PM UTC

I will try not to spam the forums :)

MLGtino January 6, 2015 at 9:01 PM UTC

I'll try my best :)
Thanks for sharing.

Mooch24 January 6, 2015 at 10:01 PM UTC

honestly, the forums is pretty much made of stupid games, AMAs, maps, and quick questions from non regs. people attack each other for making a thread that asks for peoples opinions. and its not just players, the staff always meddle. i can see that dopey topics are easy to moderate and arguments dont break out as often. but for a public forum that attempts to censor peoples opinions is kinda nutty.

just my 2 cents
