Mods, this could be a godsend. by NewVoltdrive July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

[Removed]
This mod could make it over 9000 times easier to catch hackers. And it's entirely client-side, we do not need the mod on the server.

goldenwalrus909 July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

I was thinking of something like a video camera mod..
But yeah, I feel like this would be really good!

adrianosborne July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

Looks awesome!

Carryinq July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

I agree.

Notalgicular July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

Could be abused sooo badly

Carryinq July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

True...

NewVoltdrive July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

Could be abused sooo badly
Well...if they really wanted to abuse it, they shouldn't be mod.

Notalgicular July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

Did I say I was talking about mods?

Phobiaxx July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

incredible... but its a mistake posting it to everyone... I'll bet some forum users are gonna take it and abuse it D:

AlvaroMorata July 29, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

Such a great idea!

Not everyone reads the forums. Plus, most people on the forums have the good mind to not use it.

D00ZiE July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

If you can see the views of any player in the game then this would be considered illegal, as it gives the player an advantage.

NewVoltdrive July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

I assumed you would be mature enough to use it for moderation purposes only....but if they don't like it on you, that's fine too.

It is illegal for ANYBODY to use.

Zaayk July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

It is illegal for ANYBODY to use.
Yes, it would give an advantage, but wouldn't it benefit staff moderating?

If someone reported a player for "Flying" you could watch their screen and see if they are hacking, same goes for really any hacks.

D00ZiE July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

I'm not denying that it would be helpful, I am just saying it gives a player an advantage over another player, so it is illegal. Staff are not above the rules and although it would he amazing to use to catch hackers, it would still be illegal to use as staff.

Arachadonic July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

If any moderator is worth their salt they should be able to tell if someone is hacking or not just by looking at them. They shouldn't need to go into their head and look from their point of view. If they do then maybe they should reconsider their post.

Joao_Victor July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

Sure, this is pretty cool, but personally I wouldn't really need it.

Since we have spectator /tp, unlike before Avicore, we don't have to be flying around the map looking for the player while potentially not seeing signs of hacks.

sfkwww July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

@Nolan Maybe, but it would help you guys a ton with catching x-ray hackers, since they are generally not as easy to catch.

Carryinq July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

I agree with sfk

S3M3L July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

You want to make it easier for moderators, at the same time you have five infractions of false reports, does it make sense to you?

Avicus rules should affect moderators as much as donors and non-donors, a moderator shouldn't be able to "be in a players head" and in my opinion it counts as cheating.

Phobiaxx July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

how about, just let sr.mods+ and trusted mods use it?
(post the link directly in their skype or something)

gaboelmejor July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

Wrong. I disagree with your statement saying this is illegal because Optifine, and Gama Bright give an advantage to another player over another player and they are legal mods. Now you may be thinking yeah but they can use Optifine and Gama Bright too, well same goes for this mod. If this mod is available to everyone and doesn't improve your PvP skill in anyway... I think making such mod illegal is just nonsense. And it's not like x-ray texture packs or things like that, that you basically can see everyone no matter where they are. If you heard the video, he said that you have a block limit in which you can see their screen and it isn't that easy to exactly locate where they are underground if you can see their screen. So I really don't see any problem with this.

That's like saying "Wizard Hax should be legal to use because everybody can use them!" Say you are guarding the monument and you hear somebody breaking the blocks around you, you could activate this and see where they are. Same goes for a rusher, they could use this to "scout" the opposing team defence.

NewVoltdrive July 29, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

You know what? I just remembered something that is being added in 1.8. Spectator gamemode. So you can just get in them anyway. Well, I guess this isn't needed that much...lock please.
P.S. Was it really necessary to remove the links?

As I said on my post on page 2, staff are not above the rules. Since this is illegal, no staff would be able to legally use it, no matter how helpful it is.

You can no longer request locks.

That's dumb.

Also, to actually see them, you have to do some command to enable that. That probably doesn't help much, but just FYI.

Again... it's not that easy locating someone with that thing... He can be breaking the blocks near you, but it is really hard using that thing and knowing where he is... Having his perspective and trying to hide at the same time is really difficult to do. And then you have what Voltdrive said, it's kind of hard to do a command to have someones perspective while Scouting.

@gab: Optifine and Gamme bright do not give a PvP advantage over other players. I honestly don't know what you're talking about...

@gab: Optifine and Gamme bright do not give a PvP advantage over other players. I honestly don't know what you're talking about...
Giving a zoom to your screen and having your screen clear without darkness all the time gives you a pvp advantage... Shooting someone from a far place without optifine is harder than with it and fighting in a cave is harder without the mega brightness.

Sphrynax July 30, 2014 at 1:07 AM UTC

Wait.

It says [Removed] So I have no idea what this actually is...
Can somebody tell me please?

Cezbla July 30, 2014 at 2:07 AM UTC

Yep agreed

??

San_David July 30, 2014 at 2:07 AM UTC

??
Basically, it would allow you to see what's on another player's screen from your computer. At least, that's what I'm guessing.

zaidms0987 July 30, 2014 at 4:07 AM UTC

Personally, I don't see why mods can't use this, for moderating purposes only ofc. You say mods must follow the rules, but yet sr. mods get gamemode 1. If they get that for moderating, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to use this provided they don't abuse it.

Riskayyy July 30, 2014 at 6:07 AM UTC

"Shooting someone from a far place without optifine is harder than with it and fighting in a cave is harder without the mega brightness."

That's an opinion, not a fact. It doesn't make you better at PvP.

I don't believe that is how it works. I believe that it works by putting a camera at the same coordinates as the player (incl direction they are facing) and follows them around.

Mont of us enjoy playing the game, as well as playing on other servers. Most servers would ban you for having this on your system, regardless of whether it is turned on or not.

As for the unnamed person claiming that it is equivalent to gamma bright and optifine, that is incorrect, those mods do very little in terms of gameplay, while this mod has the potential to have quite an effect on gameplay.

xks July 30, 2014 at 8:07 AM UTC

Yeah, this would be great!
Cheaters would get %100 caught. Love the idea!

"As for the unnamed person claiming that it is equivalent to gamma bright and optifine",

First I don't see why you bother saying "unnamed person" instead of saying my name. Second I never said Gamma bright and Optifine are equivalent to this mod. I pointed out Optifine and Gamma bright as examples of legal mods that give you an advantage over another player, not as equivalent. Again don't see anywhere that I wrote that they were the same as this mod. Just saying they were legal mods, give an advantage, and that it would be nonsense making this mod illegal. This is my opinion though.

"that is incorrect, those mods do very little in terms of gameplay, while this mod has the potential to have quite an effect on gameplay."

This is your opinion about it, but I think that you can't quite compare any of them other than saying they give an advantage to a player. The three of them give an effect on the gameplay in their different aspects no matter how small or big the effect can be.

resepignev July 30, 2014 at 10:07 AM UTC

This is Hacking! You hack in to the minecraft client and then you see the screen. It's just bad! If a Mod uses this, he breaks the rules and will be banned. If the staff uses this, I quit Avicus. I don't want, that someone see my screen, wethever I "hack" or not. ITS JUST FALSE!

The_Detonator_ July 30, 2014 at 11:07 AM UTC

Your last paragraph is incorrect. I can compare mods for their legality. It is not my opinion, it is the effect on gameplay. And yes, all three of them give you an advantage, but they are different advantages. I think it would be easier for me to explain each one.

First off, avicus is not a survival server, being able to controll resources is not part of the gameplay. With this, being able to controll the lighting is not part of the gameplay. It is extremely easy to toggle past the max that is in settings, and so mods such as gamma bright are allowed.

As for optifine, it gives a large fps boost. The zoom is a handy tool that does not hinder gameplay. It makes it easier to see things, which I personally use due to a fairly low screen res (720p).

The mod in question gives you a large tactical advantage. You can see over walls, you can see under walls, you can see defenses, you can plan on how to pass these defences, learn where defenders lie, all before you've come within 59 blocks of the place. The mod is not legal for use of this server at current, and shall remain this way until a manager or above says ptherwise.

Tekcrezec162 July 30, 2014 at 12:07 PM UTC

I agree that this indeed gives a slight pvp advantage, say someone wants to try to sneak up on you,but you have his perspective on camera, you can literally see where he is going, and in this case, you can judge when he is going to attack you.
As for the mods not using this mod,I also agree with their judgement, using something illegal to spy on someone using something illegal as well, isn't that just downright irony?

Zedther July 30, 2014 at 12:07 PM UTC

Hackers have feelings too...
cold trolly feelings...

No. I have no quarrels with staff using it solely for the purpose of moderating. It's just that I imagine that some would like to play without having to switch their client.

I see,but it's still up to Lerd Howsie to decide isn't it?

If they're using it for legitimate reasons, there is no problem.

NewVoltdrive July 30, 2014 at 5:07 PM UTC

Just give up on the idea.
Plus, 1.8. Spectator gamemode. That stuff.

UnicornSniper July 30, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

Would mods be able to 'tp' to hackers since those things will be removed by EULA?

_BillGates July 30, 2014 at 6:07 PM UTC

Would mods be able to 'tp' to hackers since those things will be removed by EULA?
the ability of /tp as spectator isnt a gameplay adventage and everyone haves it as spectator

Would mods be able to 'tp' to hackers since those things will be removed by EULA?
Mods didn't pay for their rank.
So they would keep it.

steven5703 July 30, 2014 at 8:07 PM UTC

Mods didn't pay for their rank.

That means Mineplex's staff can't have any staff commands x3

Because you have to donate to become staff there. c:
