i can't join avicus anymore, it keeps saying unknown host. can anybody help me.

Try direct connecting with
mczone1.avic.us

You may be using old Avicus IP's. Try using avic.us.

Is it just Avicus that you cannot connect to?
If you cannot connect to any server, that means that it might be your internet.
If not, try doing what rile and Pete said.

It's not his internet...over the past week the server and forums have crashed multiple times

To connect just use avic.us instead of the old ip.
