ridicoulus infractions by Blueish_ January 31, 2016 at 2:01 AM UTC

i was looking through other peoples profiles and some of the infractions are just plain stupid. Like inapropaite skin, inapropaite username, and inapropaite cape. I mean really? And people on the server calling mineplex corrupted. I'm really starting to think the staff enjoy giving infractions to players. A couple years ago in minecraft when players were given infractions it was because they were ruining the community and the other players gameplay. But nowadays giving infractions is just a game. Let me ask you, does a bunch of pixels shaped like penis bother you? Does it ruin your gameplay on the server?

ClubberNugget January 31, 2016 at 2:01 AM UTC

This is the biggest problem you could ever point out.

I don't know about you but, naked women skins, penis capes and names like "killallblacks" are annoying and this affects my gameplay, I don't know about you

SnowSX3 January 31, 2016 at 2:01 AM UTC

*inappropriate

If it bothers you that much then contact the Senior Staff team.

Inappropriate skins, usernames and skins aren't allowed on our servers to protect the community from any racial, homophobic or other offensive content.

It's common sense really.

I don't know about you but I'd rather not have Blackface and Hitler running around the server.

Every infraction is justified, if it involves you or if you have any concern, feel free to email the support team.

"Giving out infractions is just a game now".

Wake up. Minecraft is a game. Everything you do in it is a game. Giving out punishments is not an exception. At the end, it's all just a game.

On the inappropriate infractions, it's for the younger part of the community. I don't think stupid infractions are a thing but. Every infraction has an explanation behind it.

What at really is a problem is the lack of judgement before giving out an infraction.

DaFrozenBlaze January 31, 2016 at 4:01 AM UTC

Not allowing inappropriate names and skins is a universal rule across most servers.
It will ruin someone's day if they get offended it.
All those infractions make sense and are logical.

You'll find quite a lot of people don't really appreciate seeing any form of nudity, racism, immaturity or
homophobia on Avicus, especially our younger members, if something inappropriate won't be tolerated in chat, there's no reason why it should be tolerated in nay other form.

Robin_DD_J January 31, 2016 at 10:01 AM UTC

In my opinion offensive capes should be allowed, it's stupid. And if you have a problem with them you can easily disable them.
However, names and skins isnt something you can really disable.

Myworld6 January 31, 2016 at 11:01 AM UTC

Offensive names and skins do not refer to inappropriate sexual references solely. It can also cover racist terms, homophobic terms, sexist terms, etc. that can offend other players. If these words and insults are not tolerated in the chat, it is only logical that they are not tolerated in usernames, as they are intended to cause offence and thus they may disrupt the game-play of other players.

DonaldMyTrump January 31, 2016 at 11:01 AM UTC

Poor taste is a subjective opinion. I personally don't trust staff to spell "remaining objective", never mind practice it.

Some people are offended easily, and let's be honest, hitler skins, KKK capes, come on. Maturity is not at it's finest in my opinion. I don't mind these personally, but others might.

ClubberNugget January 31, 2016 at 8:01 PM UTC

The point is, yes, I agree that to an extent, sheltering is stupid, this is the internet.

But remember, this is a fricken block game geared to 10 year olds lol, it's not like they are playing call of duty. There they are asking for mature content, but mine craft is tame. It should be kept that way

_Jupiter January 31, 2016 at 9:01 PM UTC

For littler kids playing Avicus or any other server, then inappropriate sexual references should be regulated so they don't need to deal with it.
As for racist/homophobic/sexist/whatever names those piss me off personally and should be punished.

PieZ January 31, 2016 at 10:01 PM UTC

"i was looking through other peoples profiles and some of the infractions are just plain stupid. Like inapropaite skin, inapropaite username, and inapropaite cape. I mean really? And people on the server calling mineplex corrupted."

We have a set of rules that are geared toward the server's needs. There are certain players that do not wish to see these types of things on the server. We do have closed off places for people to become a little more "vulgar" if they chose but because of how open the server platform is on Avicus we do not wish that these inappropriate skins, usernames, etc. on such a public place. Now I do believe that calling the server corrupt is unfair in this regard.  Whenever I search up the word "corrupt,"(Dictionary, 2016) I get this "having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain." from almost every dictionary website I can find. I do not believe we are being dishonest. It says right in the rules to not use inappropriate skins or usernames. “B1. Your Minecraft username and skin must be appropriate for all ages. Objectionable usernames and skins will not be tolerated.”(Avicus, 2016)  I do also believe that everyone knows when you break the rules you will be punished and it even says on the punishing guidelines that are public to the community that it will earn the user a ban or temban depending on what the situation is. You can check for yourself even. https://avicus.net/forums/6f91bb10e. Go to "MISCELLANEOUS" part and search it up yourself if you still do not believe me.

"I'm really starting to think the staff enjoy giving infractions to players."

This is a fair argument but you do not have anything backing your claim with. The only thing you put down was stated above which I already went to and gave my opinion on that. I can tell you that staff like to verbal warn instead of /warn. So much that it is looked down upon in the staff team. I cannot give you proof on that because it would be considered leaking where it is said but if you go into a game and compare the amount of times a mod verbally warns instead of doing /warn, it just proves my point. Also verbally warning is not giving out an infraction.

"A couple years ago in minecraft when players were given infractions it was because they were ruining the community and the other players gameplay. But nowadays giving infractions is just a game."

We are supposed to only give infractions for people who are breaking the rules. We have guidelines that are public. I linked it in my first paragraph. We do not have a score on who is the best punisher...giver...thing. Again we verbal warn for a lot of minor things that can be avoided that are not worthy of a kick. If I did do /warn every time I verbal warned, I would have three times the amount of punishments I have right now. That is a guess I do not actually know the amount of times I verbal warned.

"Let me ask you, does a bunch of pixels shaped like penis bother you? Does it ruin your gameplay on the server?"

Does it personally affected me in anyway? The answer is no. But we are not thinking of a single person or a small group of people when we made this rule. We were looking at the whole crowd and we wanted our target age to be lowered so younger children can have fun on the server as well. If you are 17-18, you do not need to put dicks everywhere on your skin to have fun. As a 17 year old also, that idea seems a bit immature.

I do not see your point on this subject at all. I am sorry but I really do not see the point.

Completely agreed - however, certain Junior Mods can be eager to deal out infractions so they can appear as a good candidate for Moderator. Perhaps this is what he was referring to?

I apologize if I'm being intrusive.

Regarding the junior mods, yes there has been junior mods in the past that have been racking up infractions to look good. In reality it does not look good at all to the mentors and the senior staff team. Every junior mod that has been on trial has failed when they go on with that attitude and refuse to listen to one of the mentors when they tell them it does not look good. Yes, I do agree that things can be done to improve the trial system if something like this can happen and it does not look good for the server.

Calling the staff team corrupt for having the rules is out of line and he did not have proof to back it up. Also if he does have a problem with the rules and/or certain staff members, he is welcome to contact the senior staff/mentors or make a constructive criticism thread that pin points what is going wrong and what should happen with keeping an open mind. Those make the staff listen to the community more than some complaining thread that is seen over and over again.

You are not being intrusive ;)

Regarding the Junior Moderators, I actually never knew this - I was under the impression they preferred people that had dealed with more infractions.

The staff team is definitely not corrupt. They may occasionally slip up, but we're all human.

If you have a problem concerning punishments, you can contact the senior staff team through the support email: [email protected]

Please be aware that there are younger players on this server as well. Many of them don't need to see these types of things (inappropriate skins, usernames, etc.) on a Minecraft server. We certainly don't need parents contacting us due to these issues.

It is highly unnecessary to have an inappropriate skin or username in the first place.

If parents contact a minecraft server on the internet over something inappropriate then they aren't raising their kid right or monitoring them in a way they should

Aside from the obvious "it's inappropriate for kids" reason, another reason why this rule is in place is to maintain the sever's brand reputation. If you let a bunch of entitled, racist 12 year olds wild onto the server, it doesn't make for a good image for Avicus.

Also, if you're seriously questioning why this rule is in affect then that reflects yourself more than it does the server.

FrozenSolstice February 1, 2016 at 10:02 AM UTC

As others have said, skins of someone naked don't personally offend me. Though, I'll still punish for it due to protocol. The names/skins I dislike are the ones that are homophobic/racist/discriminatory in any way.

People take offense to different things, the easiest solution was to make all of these "offensive" skins/names punishable, so it was done. It's honestly not that big a deal. Dont change your skin or name to something offensive and stupid.

Zintenka February 1, 2016 at 12:02 PM UTC

I think the point has been stressed multiple times and the guy gets it by now - even though he should've in the first place... - I think that a lock of this topic with no archive would suffice. Let this be a visual reminder to future neighsayers why we have the rules that we have today.

Would stop anyone from escalating anything and the OP had his question answered.

I'm questioning why the rule is in effect because literally every other server (other than bl for racist names) allows it and you know, avicus barely has any players and isn't even a fun server anymore because of rules like this

Mojang have made a filter now. You can't have names likes f*ckmojang etc. but still, i think that skins that are naked isn't a problem. I don't recognise the naked skins. The skins with underwear is fine for me.

Goodnighht February 1, 2016 at 7:02 PM UTC

None of this personally offends me, but there's no logical reason to change your skin or cape to that. Just make or find a skin that you like and keep it. There is absolutely no reason to have a inappropriate caps or skin. The only reason I can think of would be to troll, and trolling can involve a lot of stuff, spamming, being very rude to people for no reason. (As a troll, because apparently it's funny to make fun of people now?) Now, this could be a friend messing with another friend, that's different, but there's no real reason to have to have someone be offended by a skin or cape. Just keep them away and no one gets offended. Simple as that.

Incorrect.

A lot of other servers have rules that prohibit inappropriate names, images etc.

Also you used the word "literally" incorrectly because you assumed that every other minecraft server in existence doesn't enforce this rule when you have no evidence to back it up.

It really grinds my gears when people use the word literally in a figurative way.
This is like the whole "statistically" thing all over again.
My gosh.

Back on topic, if you're truely upset at how this rule is in place and believe that Avicus "isn't a fun place" then why are you still here?

Because you like Avicus. You can say how much you despise this place but the fact that you keep going on the forums, server, Teamspeak means that you enjoy it here :)

Firstly, I hope you've noticed he's banned so techically, he's not around anymore.

Secondly, no one here cares about how words should be used properly, teacher.

And thirdly, ok, there might be some servers out there which have the same rule but they don't have an average of 40 players online, unlike this one.
