A message about Inappropriate Jokes. by MidnightBeats November 4, 2014 at 1:11 AM UTC

Hello everyone.
Recently we have seen a rise in the amount of inappropriate jokes.
These types of jokes include
If we catch anyone making such jokes in an inappropriate and disrespectful way, they will be punished accordingly.

Thanks,
The Avicus Staff team.

As long as we do not see any inappropriate jokes on the server or TeamSpeak, then it's fine.

Does autism count

D00ZiE November 4, 2014 at 1:11 AM UTC

Does autism count
Yes. Any jokes regarding autism will not be tolerated in game, or on the Avicus TeamSpeak.

Mooch24 November 4, 2014 at 1:11 AM UTC

i doubt it will last 2 days

Aydran November 4, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

Are the "[Redacted]" jokes allowed?

Staff Note: You know the answer, no.

Milki November 4, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

Just as a general rule, please do not make jokes that could offend a particular group of people.

Also, please do not make jokes about anyone at his or her expense, at least not personally; laugh with people, not at people.

JUBBINATOR November 4, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

"Diabetic jokes"
no fat jokes?
"Religious jokes"
Por que? what is wrong with pokin fun at the papists every once in a while? Or scientologists?

BourbonBonobo November 4, 2014 at 3:11 AM UTC

MidnightBeats November 4, 2014 at 3:11 AM UTC

Ebola jokes?? What kind of person jokes about that??
Everyone on the Internet.

JUBBINATOR November 4, 2014 at 3:11 AM UTC

Everyone on the Internet.
Plus all of Dallas

SnowSX3 November 4, 2014 at 3:11 AM UTC

What about weight and size?
Are weight jokes punishable? Because I believe they should be.

MerlinMaster November 4, 2014 at 3:11 AM UTC

Are dirty jokes okay?

Tarheelkiwi November 4, 2014 at 3:11 AM UTC

As long as we do not see any inappropriate jokes on the server or TeamSpeak, then it's fine.
Thanks for this MidnightBeats.  It hurts me to see jokes about this kind of stuff.  People have died from some of these diseases and jokes about that is very disturbing.  Glad to see some appropriate action taking place.  Thank you!

Titan16 November 4, 2014 at 3:11 AM UTC

Since many of you are obviously unclear about what you can and can not say, any joke that directly attacks or makes fun of a player or a serious matter (Ebola, Cancer, Race, etc.) will not be tolerated. I was actually about to make a post like this myself. You all know what's appropriate and what's not. Let's use some common sense, here.

In addition to this, if we see this on either the Forums, TeamSpeak, or Avicus, we will not hesitate to carry out a punishment.

The severity of the punishment will be dependant on how, where, and what kind of joke you used. In most cases however, it will be a tempban.

kycrafft November 4, 2014 at 4:11 AM UTC

Who deleted my post? I wasn't making a joke, just referencing someone who was banned for those jokes...

MidnightBeats November 4, 2014 at 4:11 AM UTC

It looked as though that you were making a joke.

But I didn't delete it.

Porkyyy November 4, 2014 at 4:11 AM UTC

I'm really glad to see this. A couple of people kept making Ebola jokes on the forums, which made me lose all respect for them. Some people don't care about anybody but themselves, and say really disrespectful things about others.

Zintenka November 4, 2014 at 5:11 AM UTC

Thanks for this. Ebola jokes are too damn common in NYC, especially since I'm Nigerian.

But one question, if a joke is to laugh with a person like a racist comment  or etc... are those allowed?

MidnightBeats November 4, 2014 at 5:11 AM UTC

We really don't tolerate any kinds of inappropriate jokes, period.

Doppelganger_ November 4, 2014 at 5:11 AM UTC

If we pm inappropriate jokes to a friend. With both parties understanding it as a joke with no malicious intent. Is this able to be punished?

garsdef November 4, 2014 at 8:11 AM UTC

ayyyyy

SnowSX3 November 4, 2014 at 8:11 AM UTC

If we pm inappropriate jokes to a friend. With both parties understanding it as a joke with no malicious intent. Is this able to be punished?
No. But you may have to explain to the mod that both parties are aware that it's just a joke.

But considering you're messaging via PM, no-one could report you apart from you and your friend. Meaning that a mod wouldn't know unless one of you call them over deliberately. Which would be a bit weird considering there would be no need to call a mod because you'd be joking with each other.

Do you understand me? :)

SnowSX3 November 4, 2014 at 8:11 AM UTC

The question has been answered now.
Any jokes that directly attacks or humiliates another player is not tolerated.
Any jokes regarding serious matters in general is not tolerated.
(Ebola, Cancer, Race, etc.)
If you say something with malicious intent, expect an infraction.

That's it really.

The questions that have been asked recently now are being too specific and are only addressing one specific situation. The question has already been answered.

If you are joking around in chat be careful, regardless if you really are kidding because people can misinterpret anything you say.

Just be clear hen you're talking in chat, no matter what you're saying, make sure you're being clear with everyone else.

If someone does misinterpret what you're saying, explain to them what you mean and be nice about it.

Iron November 4, 2014 at 11:11 AM UTC

Does that mean no more bomb jokes?

Shoto_ November 4, 2014 at 3:11 PM UTC

Thanks for this! It's sickening how people think these "jokes" are funny, online and in real life. :)

Tarheelkiwi November 4, 2014 at 3:11 PM UTC

Why are you guys asking if some sort of jokes are allowed.  PLEASE DON'T DO IT PERIOD!  What if you had a disease.  Would you want people making jokes about YOU.  So please just stop and think about others instead of trying to be funny.

Myv November 4, 2014 at 4:11 PM UTC

Or "17 years jokes" hue hue

S3M3L November 4, 2014 at 5:11 PM UTC

Is staff allowed to joke about this?

zdq November 4, 2014 at 5:11 PM UTC

So it's fine if we do it when a mod isn't around?

You should get a filter for them and get a "hacker" filter like on Badlion.

ViceTechnicolour November 4, 2014 at 5:11 PM UTC

Is staff allowed to joke about this?
Staff are bound to the same rules as normal players.

_BillGates November 4, 2014 at 5:11 PM UTC

Avicus is getting everyday stricter...

also is asking to people if they think Obama is pregnant allowed (Pregnancy jokes)?
is 17 years jokes allowed?

S3M3L November 4, 2014 at 5:11 PM UTC

Staff are bound to the same rules as normal players.
Is this why this behavior occurs on a daily basis on TS?

IamSUPERMAN2007 November 4, 2014 at 5:11 PM UTC

We can still joke around on TS (18+ channel) right?

zdq November 4, 2014 at 5:11 PM UTC

Daym son Semmy is a big boi

QFrog November 4, 2014 at 6:11 PM UTC

yay for limiting jokes, great job...

1Theodore1 November 4, 2014 at 6:11 PM UTC

rekt by ebo...
jk

Iron November 4, 2014 at 6:11 PM UTC

No seriously someone answer my question

*its life or death* ;3

MidnightBeats November 4, 2014 at 6:11 PM UTC

Since many players seem to be confused, here's what I'll say.

Although we would prefer you did not say these jokes, we will not completely restrict you from saying it.
For example,
Saying the word "ebola" once won't give you a tempban, we will give you a verbal warning. When you start to use these jokes in a more severe, inappropriate answer, then you will be punished.

Lately the amount of Ebola jokes and such have been getting out of hand so this thread was made just as a clarification.

D00ZiE November 4, 2014 at 6:11 PM UTC

The 18+ chat rooms will be a lot less strict than the other channels, but if a player requests that you stop making jokes about a sensitive topic you must comply.

Joao_Victor November 4, 2014 at 7:11 PM UTC

@Samir Don't be excessive or degrading with them.

Also, 17 years jokes are also not allowed, they're overused and are degrading and offensive to the development and staff team.

Mooch24 November 4, 2014 at 7:11 PM UTC

so far havent seen it been enforced on ts once

and ive heard loads of "offensive" jokes

Hola November 4, 2014 at 7:11 PM UTC

Well then, not joining ts anymore I guess.

zdq November 4, 2014 at 8:11 PM UTC

What are "17 years" jokes?

zdq November 4, 2014 at 8:11 PM UTC

yay for limiting jokes, great job...
I get where the staff are coming from tbh. Some people can be really sensitive to jokes. Believe it or not, I used to be :P

JoseTheSavage November 4, 2014 at 8:11 PM UTC

And jokes like "JoseKiller Ez"
I accept it when my friends do it, I don't like when my nemeses do it, this is bad sportsmanship, I report it a lot of times and any member of staff do something about it.

Thanks (:

Arachadonic November 4, 2014 at 8:11 PM UTC

People excessively using "Ez" in chat is considered disrespectful and has been punishable for awhile now. Normally it only ever gets as far as a formal /warn though.

Notalgicular November 4, 2014 at 8:11 PM UTC

yay for limiting jokes, great job...
Why, in your eyes is it ok to use autism as a negative insult?

Arachadonic November 4, 2014 at 9:11 PM UTC

yay for limiting jokes, great job...
You made a leaving thread and have also not been on the server (on this account) for 20 days. Why exactly do you continue to stay around simply to post negative posts? If you have such an issue with the server (which is the vibe I get from a lot of your posts) then suggest on ways to improve it as opposed to just being negative for the sake of being negative. It benefits no one, least of all you.

Stimulating November 4, 2014 at 10:11 PM UTC

It amazes me that people know almost nothing about HIV, AIDS, Cancer, Ebola, and especially Autism and are so ignorant as to joke about them. IMO Racist jokes are fine IF NO ONE TAKES OFFENSE TO THEM OR CARES. The brown people make jokes about their race at school and people will say stuff like, "brown parents" and no one will care because we're just joking around. Not even the brown people care you said that. :P
Bottom line is that you can't just punish that if no one cared or everyone, including people of that race found it funny. Certain things have no exceptions. But certain things do. And read up a little on something before you make an ignorant joke/comment about it.
Just imagine the life you'd have to go through of you had Autism and/or were Gay.
You'd basically get bullied and insulted every day and probably would have little to no friends because loads of people are really shallow. How would you feel if evey day of your life you had to feel like complete shit because you were BORN that way?

This is just common sense, think about it.

kycrafft November 4, 2014 at 10:11 PM UTC

This isn't a 17 years joke so is this allowed?
http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?p0=676&iso=39991231T2359&msg=Avicore

2 days before a staff member comes in and says "This kid's autism".

I guarantee.

If you see this happen I highly recommend you report it, but I highly doubt any member of the staff team would act that way.

What about eating mooshroom meat jokes:(

I've never heard a staff member say that.

Zieno12345 November 5, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

is the usage of the word shrek allowed

ImJeezus November 5, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

Why are 17 jokes and your mom jokes restricted but suicide jokes are not?

OriginaI November 5, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

Your kidding me, your mom jokes and 17 years... Why do you need to take those out, they never hurt anybody unless you take things seriously on the internet...

#16YearsAllowed?!

Joao_Victor November 5, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

Why are 17 jokes and your mom jokes restricted but suicide jokes are not?
Like, saying your going to commit suicide as a joke?

JUBBINATOR November 5, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

Like, saying your going to commit suicide as a joke?
"what's 10+7 if you're so smart?"
"17"
"Just... no... kill yourself"
example, bad, but common

Joao_Victor November 5, 2014 at 2:11 AM UTC

"what's 10+7 if you're so smart?"

"Just... no... kill yourself"

Yeah stuff like that, that would be against the rules.

I hate these freakin Ebola jokes, I can't stand them. Just because it's affecting people far away from North America people decide to make fun of it and laugh at a disease.... If Ebola was a thing here in Canada and USA no one and I mean absolutely NO ONE would make fun of it.

Ebola IS in the USA.
